Corvette ZR-1 knocks four seconds off 'Ring time, now at 7:22! - 6SpeedOnline

Back at the N?rburgring, the hot Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/19/autoblog-first-drive-2009-corvette-zr1/) has just ripped four seconds off its claimed 7:26 lap (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/candd-performs-first-instrumented-testing-of-corvette-zr1/). The new time, with Jan Magnussen at the wheel, is a claimed 7:22.4 for the full 12.93-mile loop. While the number is pretty bloody fast, it is still .3 seconds off the time earned by the Dodge Viper ACR (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/27/unofficial-dodge-viper-acr-laps-ring-in-record-7-22-1-w-video/) (ouch, those three tenths really have to hurt!). We take these lap times with a grain of salt, as we've yet to see everyone on the 73-turn course under the same conditions, and with officially certified timing equipment. Again, so you don't have to Google the competition's best-claimed Ring times yourself, here they are: Porsche GT2 - 7:32, Nissan GT-R - 7:29, Corvette ZR1 - 7:22.4 and the Dodge Viper ACR - 7:22.1. If I lived over there I would be starting a group/company specializing in standardizing/validation of these "ring times". Anyway, the ZR1 continues on.

Very good time from the ZR-1.
But i cant help feeling if the driver of the ACR hadn't spent about half the lap on the rev limiter the ACR would be in the teens.

Salespunk is infamous around these parts

The driver of the ACR knew what he was doing. Sometimes it is faster to bounce the limiter than shift up and back down. All of these times are incredible though. A few short years ago people were excited about sub 8 minute times.

find it hard to believe that bouncing off the rev limiter would be quicker then shifting at the redline, but who knows? Lets see what they come back with next time!

I find it a little hard to beleive that Horst went almost 20 seconds faster in the GT2 than he did the Z06. Sport Auto is decent, but far from being an athority.

Sport auto originally had a video posted of the Z06 that said fabreichte (sp) which means warmup lap, they later changed the heading to real lap, one in which he missed some shifts pretty badly.

Also 7:54 in the 997 TT on MPSC is rediculous, when the 996 TT went 7:56 on PS2's. The 996 GT2 on PS2's is faster than the 997 GT3 and RS on MPSC.

Viper @ 8:13.
Scuderia @ 8:39 (6 seconds slower than his time in the GT2)
F430 @ 7:55
LP-560 @ 7:52

The times are all over the place, and from the laps I've seen, none of them are in crap conditions.
