Viper, ZR1, LP640, SL65 Heads to Head

Surprised the Viper beat the ZR1 by almost 1 full second from 0-150mph. These 08-09 Snakes are sick. It also trapped 1 mph higher in the 1/4 but .1 slower than the ZR1 in ET. What that means is they are pretty much extremely close in the acceleration dept but the ZR1 stops 20 feet better from 70mph and pulls .05 more g's than Viper[brake advantage huge for a roadcourse showdown]. The Murcie is no joke and I suspect it might have bested the Vipers 0-150mph run if only because of the AWD advantage from a dig.

ZR1 was declared the winner to no surprise considering its been winning all its comparos so far. No surprise that the Viper came in last as thats been the trend since the turn of the century. For whatever reason the automotive media seems to hate this car even if it romps lol. "Chinzy" interior for the ZR1 and its 2nd place finish in acceleration didnt stop it from winning. But the Vipers interior and crude manners with its "cheapest price" of the bunch didnt help it do better than last place even though it won the acceleration test and bettered the other two in some of the performance tests

I just cant figure out mag test logic. They set parameters than make final choices devoid of following the parameters. Everyone remembers the "Ultimate Track Test"

2008 Dodge Viper Coupe
1/4 mile: 11.8 @ 128 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 16.4
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 127 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 17.1
2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series
1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 126 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.6
0-150 MPH: 17.9
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640
1/4 mile: 11.5 @ 127 MPH
0-60 MPH: 3.2
0-150 MPH: N/A

Surfer is infamous around these parts
Viper is almost always in last place even though its generally dominating everything in every category and kicking ***. Guess some are too pussified for the raw brutality

Two points:

-I really like the new Viper. Especially the ACR.

-More proof that the ZR1 isn't as fast as it should be, considering it's power/weight. Seems to be no faster than a bolt-on Z06. Hell, bone stock Z06s have gone 0-150 in 17.5, 17.7 and 17.9. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...06z06perf.html

Only my opinion, of course.

I agree. After seeing the ZR1 dyno and specs I expected it to humble the Viper and Z06 by a decent margin. I remember seeing a recent car rag test of the ZR1 vs Z06 and it wasnt shockingly faster than the Z06 as the 30k+ price tag would seem to indicate. If memory serves it wasnt that much faster on the roadcourse either. Its really something to realize that the Viper is making about the same rwhp N/A as a "blown" v8. ZR1 is way more than just a straightline car however and I still like it but it does make me appreciate the Z06 and Viper more considering all the tech the ZR1 has and it isnt murdering them. mho

I wouldn't take one magazine article as the final word on the subject especially looking at the slow et of the Vette and Viper. I haven't driven the ZR1 yet but I own a Z06 and new ACR and I find it hard to believe the ZR1 won't be noticeably faster than the Z06 with a capable driver in both cars. My Z06 and ACR are pretty close, really a drivers race IMO.

I own both a Z06 and ZR1 and can tell you that the ZR1 is MUCH faster. You must learn to modulate the throttle or the back will be letting loose all day in the ZR1

Yeah some of the mags set those events up to the cars that most of them like the most, the ACR is more like a track day car and the ZR1 is more like a daily driver if that makes and sence? I think it would be interesting to see these cars on a preped track with some slicks and a decent sidewall tire and see what they do then then take them to a road track had have a good ole time LOL.
