Hi guys,
(the short) Summer will eventually get to MN and I'm considering buying a 'lightly used' SL65 for super-sunny day duty.
I'm after either an '05 or 06', and it appears from my research that they are essentially the same car (sans the std. Keyless Go in '06).
Anything to watch out for w/ either year?
They appear to be in the $65 to $80K range, miles dependent, which seems like a great bang for the buck.
Appreciate your insights/time.

Noob? You've been a member for three years yet we have the same amount of rep points???
Go crawl back to your Z06 mancave.........we prefer not hearing our door panels rattle when we close them!
Noob means 'new' - eg, duration.
It's not a measure of how many idiotic posts one can make in 60 days - regardless of your 'rep' points.
You're not that bright, are you?

whoa chris...hostile a lil!!! LOL... but seriously 8speed, those were the dumbest responses. if you have nothing practical to say, STFU and GTFO.
Chris, my dad was looking at these cars back when they came out. of course, there wasn't long term feedback on them, but just keepin up with maintenance costs could get ugly. it is "known" that the newer AMG stuff is rocksolild, but you never know, one thing goes wrong and it could get pricey real quick!!! If you do end up buying a AMG, get one with a warranty!!! im not kiddin, anything 03'-06', MB quality went down (IMHO). i will say though, i love my E55. my dad is now debating selling our E55 for the newer E63. just get the complete history and make the right decision...
off hand... for the 80K, why not get something more exquisite? you could get an Aston or a lambo/ferrari/maserati??? why the MB???
do you have any hook ups on these cars. Look at Crosstown Luxury motors, they have a couple of 65 AMG cars. swing by and talk to them, they are good people... they can give you good feedback too.

How's the wrist? Pretty soon, it's GO-kart time

Yeah, that dude's been a downer - had enough.
I need some sun on my face and I've always liked the SL65.. Aston's are nice, but you're not going to get one for $80K and I'm too spoiled by horsepower to drive anything w/ less than about 500. Plus, I like the hardtop when it's chilly.
The E's are great - my partner has a 63 and loves it. Again, if I weren't after a drop-top, I'd have already bought one of these.
We'll see - if I can find an FGT first, I might hold on the SL until next spring or shift down to a Boxster S (no lady jokes).
Thanks for the tips on warranty/Crosstown - I've met those guys and I agree that they are cool
Looking forward to catching up.

My father owns one as well and he has had no problems with it. IT is very comfortable, very fast...scratch that...scary fast especially when the tires cant hook up all the way upto 4th. He has the '06 and maintenance is what it is. if you can afford the car, you will have no problem with maintenance. Labor rates per hour at your local MBZ dealer is no different then someone taking in a C-Class for repair. after almost 3 years of ownership, the car really has had no major problems to speak. Just stupid things like the ventilated seat motor going out and the battery dying.

I hear ya on the power thing. thats totally understandable. you can't argue with 6xx hp and 7xx tq!!!! simple mods and it gets up there quick! check the benz forums, you might find one thats done up too!
As for the wrist, its healing well. i had my follow up appt yesterday, things are good. next surgery on Feb 20th. i go back to work mid march. SO until then, i sit at home and dick around... i still get damn near 90% of my paycheck though.

with so much time on my hands, i have found a couple deals in parts, so i buy and flip them. i also bought another 05' gsxr 1000.
anywho...keep us up to date on what happens with the SL65! you owe me a ride you know!!!!
P.S are you selling anything to buy this car or adding to the collection???
Aj
Only thing I can contribute is a friend in town who owned one went through a set of rear tires like once a month or so... That power SHREDS the rubber. Obviously dependent on driving style but the rubber doesn't last long.
My space available will outlast my $$ anyway.
Chris, Drop me an email or hit me up on AIM. Always willing to help a guy out. I've also owned a C6 Z06 so I'm sure we speak a lot of the same language. SL65 is an awesome car, and for the prices these days... it's almost a no brainer.
