Fabspeed: 09 Turbo Exhaust - Opinion plse

Need your opinion.

I had the "quiet version" of the Fabspeed exhaust installed in my 08 Turbo last year.
I then traded in this for an 09 Turbo.
Had the dealer change out the exhaust.
2000 miles later, the Check Engine Light goes on.

I was told that the computer system in the 09 differs from the 08 in that the sensors are more "Sensitive".

I was informed that I now need a new Catalytic Converter (1,200 discounted price plus 300 for the install).

Does this sound reasonable?
I would appreciate your input.

You should get new cats free imo.
The 09s are more sensitive, bungs might help, but you're gonna need a new set of hjs cats.

Did Fabspeed disclose everyone upfront or inform you of the more sensitive 09?

No, I actually bought this version for my 08 turbo.
It's just unfortunate that I have to pay an additional 1,500 or more to have the car pass emissions.

You have probably thrown an efficiency CEL due to the high flow cats, try the spacer on the oxygen sensor trick, a few have dont that on here with success.

However if you have the old Fabspeed exhaust then chances are you need their new version with the CEL friendly cats. HJS cats or the ones europipe use (I believe it differs) are the ones to get (note, this is from memory recalling fabspeed had issues with early exhaust kits, I could be wrong).

From 08 to 09 I have heard of zero changes in the 'sensitivity' of the exhaust, there were rumors of that from 07 to 08 models but not sure if anything concrete was produced to prove it.

9k on my Cargraphic with zero CEL's FWIW.

I would just get your ecu flashed rather than invest in a new set of cats. That will take care of the cel. Whose to say the new cats will hold up anyhow? Just because your cel comes on doesn't mean you won't pass emissions. If you got an 08 Fabspeed exhaust then they are HJS cats. $300 to just swap out the cats seems steep. My whole exhaust install was done for $270 (2 hr job, including rear bumper removal).

Can you just reflash your ECU to accept the cats? Isn't that what we do for exhausts like Europipe or Ruf that have 100 cell cats?

Did you contact Fabspeed? If so, what was their response? They're usually very good with their customer service.

What about just the O2 sensor being replaced?

I had that issue, would throw the CEL when traveling long distances in 6th gear, since the change seems like its fine.
