I need opinions on my '67 Fastback Project!

I bought a '67 Mustang Fastback not too long ago and I'm just dying to get to start working on it. My buddies and I were pitching ideas and thought that it'd be a true one of a kind if i dropped in the new generation GT500 motor and tranny. what do you guys think? would this fit? . I need some expert opinions so let me know if this would be a cool project or if it's out of the question. what do you guys think? would this fit?

That would be a cool project. Just like all the 1st gen Camaro guys dropping in LSx motors in there... I am sure it can be done, just might have to relocate and fab a few things.

project

Well these things ALWAYS need more work than you think. I am doing a 70 Cougar with an 05 cobra motor, supercharged and intercooled. GT40 heads, ect.. we had to do A lot of fab work to get that motor in...FAT. The other thing is getting it all wired up. Does anyone sell a kit? The Ford guys have been following the progress and are making us the wiring for the car. We had to fab headers, motor mounts and a lot of other things. So, my advice is plan it out and research before you do anything.

H.p

You can do anything as long as you have the cash. Here is one of my cars. A 65 Chevelle with a z06 motor in it.

It can definitely be done, my main concerns would be shock tower clearance as the new Mod motors are quite a bit wider than any of the Windsors/Clevelands, and you might have some firewall/trans-tunnel issues because of the large 6-speed. I'm sure you can find measurements somewhere though and see what needs to be changed. On barrett jackson re-runs yesterday there was a 68 mustang with coil-overs that had the shock towers completely removed and it made the engine bay much bigger, maybe you could consider something like that?

Swap

Yes, the shock towers are history. The trans tunnel will need to be cut on. headers will be tough to fit unless you fab your own. Little things like the alternater will need to be mounted in a different spot. Also, like i mentioned a wiring kit will need to be made. The 65 Chevelle swap was pretty straight forward because they sell kits to do that type of swap. for the most part. The cost was not to bad, i think i picked up the motor, brand new for 6 or 7k. Then all the computer stuff, headers ect.. so i would say for me parts where about 25k. Now i did a lot more to the car. Trans, top of the line AirRide, big brakes ect...

AJE racing makes a nice front susp that will allow the swap.

the 4.6 cobra motor has been done, the GT500 5.4 is a big bigger but raises the cool factor. Its likely you will have to run some sort of raised hood to clear it though so include that in your budget.
