Could someone give me instructions for removal of the black plastic side skirts for painting? Thanks in advance.

 

it's relatively simple. There's approx 4 screws on the very bottom that hold it in place. Then there are some clips. It pops out easily once the screws are off. I did mine 2 months ago. Had the front lip, side skirts, and rear valence painted. The rear is much more difficult to take off.

 

Are you sure you want to paint them? The plastic side skirts are there for a reason-to prevent chips and road rash from flying debris. If they get painted, you will need to touch them up with paint when you start getting chips. The black plastic skirts reflect the small stones that come up on it. Even the official Porsche Turbo brochure mentions this. Black doesn't show the small nicks and chips. Just my 2 cents. Just bought a '07 Turbo and it was ordered with front spoiler and intakes painted and rear apron painted but skirts left black plastic. The black skirts tie in the black tires and looks great on GT silver.

 

paint them & while they are off the car have them put clear bra on them ,i had this done 6 months ago and no chip marks what so ever & it really makes the car look lower to the ground when there painted .

 

I agree. IMO, it changes the look of the car overall. Makes it look lower for sure.

 

Great idea but you need to allow at least 20 days to let the paint cure before you cover it up with plastic.

 

Actually, you want to wait a bit longer than that. If not, the paint can come off with the clear bra during removal.

Actually, you're much better off buying new skirts and having those painted because your existing skirts have been contaminated with road grime, oil, etc. At least that's according to my local body shop. They said they'd prefer to work with new parts. I ordered GT2 side skirts, got them painted, clearbra'ed (about 2 weeks afterwards to let the paint cure) and installed. You'll get varying answers from differen body shops on how long it takes for the paint to fully cure. Some say 2 weeks, some say a day, and some will say a month.

Looks great after even a year of driving still!

 

You are right about that but with 100+ temp for weeks at a time it will get the job done faster
