Smile 997.1 tip vs stick

I live in Taiwan and our traffic are messed up. I really really hate the stupid slow response that tip offers. I know a PDK will be the problem solver. Since I cannot afford a PDK. I am thinking to get a turbo in the near future. I dislike tip so much I guess my only route is to go with stick? I know I may or may not shift faster than a tip but the shifting sensation and feedback is priceless ( even PDK can't beat it! ) Is the turbo fast enough already that I wouldn't notice the shift change time? Tip gets drivetrain lost and only 5 speed. ( 95% of our P cars are all tips so finding a stick shift will be very difficult. So, should I aim for a nice 997.1 turbo stick?

Tip cars are actually quicker due to not loosing boost between shifts.

Driving on roads with mostly light traffic or nice empty twisty mountain roads, the stick would be, in my opinion, the only way to go.
Getting stuck in heavy traffic 80% of the time, tip would save you a hole lot of frustration.
PDK with paddle shifts is the ideal compromise between the two.
You said your driving conditions are "messed up" with respect to traffic. I would then suggest a tip. You can then install a paddle shift wheel conversion for it and you're good to go with a decent compromise for driving sensation.
Good luck.

I prefer the 6-speed manual. No dig on the TIP. I just prefer having control of when I shift.

With the tip in manual mode you control when you shift.

6 speed is priceless in the 997. If you can locate one it's well worth it imho.

It's not the same. Nothing will be like rowing through the gears, no matter how fast or how good it can rev match for you.

For traffic, the typical answer would be go automatic, but I find manuals to entertain me in traffic and keep me paying attention.

After a rough day at work it is nice to through it in drive and mindlessly saunter home. However, with spirited driving, I am certain the tip does a better job of shifting than I do. I agree that the tactile sensation of engaging a clutch and snicking into the desired gear provides some pleasure but it doesn't define the driving experience in my mind. I have attended many driving events, and owned a slew of MT vehicles ( the last being a 2007 BMW M Coupe), but even with a fair amount of driving experience I would flub shifts, not match appropriately grinding synchros, and perhaps ride the clutch a little to heavily in stop and go traffic. Not having to worry about a money shift, or clutch life, as well as having the option of driving mindlessly through rush hour traffic outweighed the pleasure that I derived from rowing my own gears. When it comes to nuts and bolts, lets be honest in regards to this debate. The performance of the cars are so close that there is almost no benefit in regards to choosing one over the other. I have a feeling that with the refinement in DCTs eventually very performance cars will be equipped with a standard transmission.

The Tiptronic is prefer for traffic and cruising. There is a different feel with a stick, which I prefer in the Turbo. The direct connection of being in gear in the manual is a very nice feeling. I would concur on the stick in daily driving. It gives me something to do when I drive to work!

I agree 100%. You can't go wrong either way. Although, PDK sounds like one helluva medium between the two if not better.

Vaino -where abouts are you in NNJ? I am in Bergen.

There is a steering wheel that looks identical to the pdk one and it converts your stock steering wheel to one with paddles on the side like the pdk...I believe the upgrade was around ~2k...
