Does this trade make sense ?

I have a 2010 997.2TT PDK with only 1500 miles on it ( bought it new )...nicely equipped with PTV and Dynamic engine mounts, sport chrono, and all the other essentials.

Have the opportunity to get into a new 2011 TTS with some cash.

Essentially getting:

Car that it is one year newer
30 more horsepower
Ceramic Brakes
Factory Aerokit
Some extra exclusivity
????

Does it make any sense to do it ? How much cash would sway you to do it ?

Or does it make more sense to just enjoy mine for a while and wait for the new "991" to come out ?

Hmm......I sat here and couldn't come up with a reason to trade. Of course, there are factors you can't list like amount of cash, color, etc. I'm not sure on the exclusivity part. Who is really gonna know the difference anyway besides you?

Well that's part of the question.

If it were $1000 cash then obviously its a no brainer.

How about 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 ?

Is there a realistic number below which it is a no brainer or is it just a silly idea entirely?

This question also depends upon how much cash a person has. I myself wouldnt spend $20k+ for 30 more hp and the other stuff you mentioned.

I don't think it's worth another $10k. The TTS will drop more significantly. I have a GT2 I can't sell to prove that. I always look at the purchase from an exit strategy perspective. Try to decide if you will get close to your extra investment back when you plan to sell. Adding happiness to the new HP and all that is mute because both cars are fast and are Porsche turbos.

yeah, 10K would probably be my threshold and then only if the S is a color combo I like even more than what I have now.

I'll push the bar to 20k. I can justify 20k for a newer car with more power and better options. Although I have a feeling that you will not be able to do this trade for less than 40.

I'd wait for the new one coming out. I purposely got a '10 and plan on driving it for 3 years then getting the new turbo. You have barely broken your car in yet! : )

If you are getting bored ... get an evoms tune. it will be just as fast as a S that gets tuned as well.

My guess is that it will cost you at least 30-40k to switch.

Paint the brakes yellow and do a ECU tune.

Give the rest to me. Problem solved.

In regards to power, we have tested a GIAC flashed 997.2 Turbo versus a Turbo S and our car literally runs away from the Turbo S. With warrantiable options like the Champion Motorsport package, there is very little liability when adding extra aftermarket horsepower to your existing PDK Turbo. This would then bring forth the question of having the aerokit and brakes. Will you be tracking the car? What purpose would they serve for you, other than to have the options?

None....simply coolness factor...not tracking...don't need ceramics...solely a weekend cruiser.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and for opening my eyes.......obviously its unanimous that it is not a good idea so I will stand pat and enjoy the great car I have now.

Thank you all for saving me some coin....drinks are on me !!

Am getting the TT-S in December (I ordered one to my exact taste). But it's because I had the 07 997TT 6 speed manual. If I had the 10 TT PDK, then I wouldn't have gotten it since it's better but not better enough to lose LOTS of money. If you are OK with losing $30K for the exchange NOT counting the price difference, then do it. Otherwise, I would wait for the 991 if I were you... ;-)

Spend about $7~$10K on your car and it will definitely be on par with the Turbo S or better! ;-)
