Will you wait for the next gen. Turbo?
With next gen 911 due out next fall, any guess on when the next gen turbo might be out? A year later, end of 2012? Does it make sense to wait for the new turbo, instead of spending 150K on a car that is due for a major change? Or pick up a 2010 used 997.2 turbo w/pdk at a decent deal once the the new model is launch?
Even when 998 turbo comes out, can u pull the trigger knowing that in 2-3 years, they will again update the 998 model just like how 997.2 came out with more performance, visual improvements, etc. It is endless. If you reallly want pdk go for it now. If not wait.
; }. I am not interested to stay ahead of the curve, I just wonder if this is the right timing because of the new model.
The difference this time is they finally released a car that's putting smiles on a lot of people's faces bone stock. I'm not sure I care what they're going to do with the 991 as I would/will be perfectly content with the new "S" regardless. Porsche is in an interesting position now that this car performs so well. As I said in another thread, "Gone are the days of small incremental changes that wet your whistle, and leave you wanting, for the next incremental changes." These "S"s are very satisfying and capable.

No. I will have few happy miles on my Turbo S when the next model hits the dealer. If Porsche out does my Turbo S and I just can't stand it then I will buy a new one. My first car was a 1974 Gran Torino. I wish I had it back now

The current TTS makes an excellent case as one of the greatest supercars ever made. Despite the fact that I've modded my car exactly to my tastes, it is the first P-car that is calling my name.
0-60, overall power and sophistication, reduced AWD 'feel' and superb quality and fit/finish make it a package that no other (well, there's that GT2 RS thingie) car can really match.
It's actually so shocking how much speed the thing produces that whatever they figure out in the 991 is more likely to be on the efficiency side rather than the pure performance side (just my opinion but it seems like they're running in to some basic physics problems in getting power to the ground).
So if I was in a buying mode, I would leap at the chance to get a TTS (again, unless I could get my hands on a GT2 RS) where the greatest challenge would be dealing with their endless options list. Should the 991 TTS show up with a bit more power, I will have had the satisfaction in knowing that I'd had a few extra years of smiles having driven the 997.2 TTS.

All high tech items such as TV's, stereo equipment, cars etc. are virtually obsolete by the time they come to market. That's because the manuf. is already developing the next biggest and best thing.
If you always worry about the next generation of anything then you will be frozen and never make a move and get into the game.
If you like the item in question then buy it and worry about the next version when it comes out. In the meantime you will be enjoying the hell out of what you bought....I know I am !!!

The trend seems to be for Porsche to make cars that are much faster stock which has many adantages in terms of drivability etc. However the concurrent trend is to make motors that do not have nearly as much potential in terms of ultimate power.
Personally (if I were in the market) I would wait for the new model to come out then get a killer discount on the "old" 997 TT PDKs.
