Need a little help here guys.

I searched the forums and even the 997 DIY's and i can't seem to find anything about DIY transmission oil servicing and intervals.
My home is in a remote location with no service but 6speedonline has been very helpful so far with the DIY's and i am reluctant to proceed until i hear from some of the experts.

Any info on how to service the tip and manual plus the parts needed (gaskets,filters etc) would be awesome.

i wouldnt recomend a DIY on the tiptronic. porsche tiptronics have always been a pain to service. basically youd need fluid, pan gasket, filter and drain and fill plug seals. a specific temperarture and procedure is needed to correctly fill the trans, not to mention a special tool, which is not necessarily needed but without it you will need to be very clever and know what your doing. I wanna say tiptronic service isnt needed til 120,000 miles on the later cars but you should call a dealer to verify that, cant remember off the top of my head and dont have paperwork in front of me right now. as far as the manual transmission... much easier. interval is 90,000 miles. get a porsche recomended fluid, drain your trans. youll need and 10mm allen and remove the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission. this works best if oil is at operating temperature. try and let it drain as long as you can. put the plug back in and remove the fill plug on the drivers side of the trans, you will need some sort of pump to get the oil into the trans. fill it slowly, which is easy cause it takes a while to pump the oil anyway. when fluid starts coming out of the fill hole its filled, reinstall the fill plug and clean up the mess and your done

 

I would never, never let oil go 90,000 miles. I changed my tranny oil (6 speed) at 4800 miles when I changed my clutch. This is why I do not buy used cars and why I get TOP $$$$$ for my used cars.

nothing wrong with changing your fluid more regularly than 90,000 miles. but that is the porsche recomended interval so dont leave it in there any longer than that. i would recomend doing it with your 60,000 mile service, especially considering that these transmissions have weak synchro's

 

on manual cars use delvac 75w90! this is factory fill in the 997 gt3rs and can handle high temps.

im switching mine out to delvac this weekend!

 

How hard is it to change the tranny oil? No Filter?

 

If you track the car change it once a year, at a minimum. If you don't track it change it every 2 to 3 years, regardless of mileage.

 

Has anyone seen a DIY on this subject?
