1987930 is infamous around these parts
Potential 997TT Owner

I'm strongly considering a 2007 997TT. Are the cars "bulletproof" as the Porsche people say? I'd probably use it 3-4000 miles per year with no track use. I've owned a few 997S cars and a bunch of 911 and 930's so I'm well aware these cars can be costly to buy, insure and maintain. The car I'm considering is a coupe, manual trans, 5000 miles, no modifications with some factory warranty remaining. MSRP was about $140K. Is there a downside here? What would be a realistic price assuming a satisfactory PPI? Thanks

The new 2010 997 Turbo series 2 is such a better a car in every aspect. Good deals on series 1 turbo's but IMO I would wait a little longer and pick up a gently used 2010 6 speed (if you can find one).

But there's also something to be said about the proven durability of the GT1 engine - still not sold on the DFI and "quasi" dry sump.

Get an 07 tt, spend $10-12k on a flash, dyno tune and suspension and you'll have a dead reliable car that handles better than a 10 997tt, as more power, has the proven GT1 engine block/dry sump and will save $60k.

I wouldn't trust a used wet sump but that's just me. Get the GT1 based TT while you can.

Thanks for the imputs guys. Would you think the Turbo to be as reliable and trouble free as the straight 997's. I've had a few of those with no problems.
