Parking attendant scratched my car!!!
Parking attendant scratched my car!!!
So on Friday I bring my car to the parking lot in front of my place where I always park it. The car is filthy because of the snow and salt in NY streets. I come to pick it up on Sunday afternoon and mysteriously the car has been cleaned up and waxed... Of course it is not the kind of garage where they would give you a complimentary wash because they like you so something must have happened for them to do that. I have no idea why they washed my car but what I know is that the guy that washed it must have used the filthiest rag he had laying around and left micro scratches all over the paint!!! On Monday, I confronted the parking manager who of course played it dumb and told me the new guy from the week end shift must have washed it, but of course he doesn't know why... Then he tells me the scratches are small and I should live with it and he has nothing else to tell me
. I could have strangled the guy on the spot!!!

thats very odd! perhaps it got bumped into and and they got it buffed out?
why else would they wash you car?
i dont even like the dealer washing my car as people can be careless and use ditry rags and creat swirls etc.

I know that some do, but they dont and if they did I'm pretty sure they would ask you before doing it. They didn't try to be nice and gave me a free wash they screwed up and tried to conceal it.
I have had my car scratched my people brushing up against when real dirty. In the end I realized any dirt on the car creates a certain risk from such a thing.
I bet the guy was just trying to be nice and loved the car. I am also sure he did not use water and most likely dry wiped it causing the scratches.

damn... which lot in NYC? pay an extra $100 a month and get a dedicated spot where u can actually park it yourself and take the keys with u.. that's what i did with my m6, r8 and now turbo s! almost every lot in nyc has accommodated me... sucks that they scratched ur car - I'd be livid and even more so that they just decide to wash ur car w/o asking? that's just wrong imo... good luck!

You can change your garage until you're blue in the face, but no car is safe in Manhattan unless the owner is Jerry Seinfeld. I lived on the UES for 4 years and went through 4 (maybe 5) garages. Each one managed to ding, scratch and even break something on my car. The most horrific one was fetching my car one day, and as the guy pulled around the corner, I noticed the driver's side mirror hanging down by the wires.
Couldn't absolve himself because I left the car there only about an hour before in perfect condition. Mumbled, made some excuses, but for once, I caught them redhanded. If you're okay with your car coming out a bit more beat up each time you take it out, then by all means, live and park in Manhattan. Otherwise, find another hobby or move out of the city. It's all about speed and how many cars they can cram in their little spaces. These #*@holes don't care one little bit about your car.
Norman, pm me and I'll direct you to a nice private lot that I have used for years, no issues. But, the kid did try and wash my car a couple of years ago to be nice, cost me 800$ to detail it out. Usually, they are just looking for a tip.

Oh jeez. Sorry to hear about yet another NYC victim.
