Need opinions 997.1 vs 997.2
Need opinions 997.1 vs 997.2
As many of you know, my car is a bit long in the tooth, 60k mikes. However, is perfect in everyway.
I have a chance to move into a new 2012 turbo pdk. Yes 2012, the only one they will get this yr.
the car has 'most' of the good options, money wise it is a sweet deal, but the car doesn't excite me at all.
told them I'd let them know Tuesday
opinions please
80/20 just keeping mine

Basically 2 reasons to buy a car:
1. As a mode of transportation to get from point A to point B
2. To excite the hell out of you and put a sh*t *** grin on your face
The exact reason that I am now in a Scud instead of a Turbo
If it doesn't excite you then don't buy it

As one of the vocal GT1-blocks-are-king members, I'm surprised you're even considering this. You said it yourself. Your car is still perfect. Why trade it and take a hit (ahem...on an inferior car
)

oh oh.... I see "the debate" being re-ignited...
A tough decision for you for sure, either now or sometime down the road, given your mileage and track time use continue to increase, etc. At some point it will become a "high-miler" and then what options will be there for you with the ultimate demise of the GT1 motor? Good luck with your musings on this one. Be interesting to see what you end up doing.

Alternative to your two choices above: GT2
Supporting reasons:
1. You do a fair amount of track work. Despite your suspension mods, the GT2 is a lighter platform, RWD, and because of this, is sharper on the track than a 997TT with coilover/springs/sway.
2. Very livable as a daily driver.
3. Capable of handling insane power upgrades without opening the engine. PDK turbos may handle basic bolt ons, but they are still limited by PDK - and no satisfactory upgrades are currently available.
Dissuading arguments:
1. No back seats - not sure if you are putting your kids back there in the turbo.
2. Does not tolerate snow very well.
Just a thought.

I have no desire/need to get rid of mine, it is perfect and tight. Just something plopped in my lap. Owed it to myself to think about it...publically.
Actually just looked at it, not feeling carrara white.

Wow - never thought i'd hear this LOL. I want to see which of us hits 100,000 miles first.
I think you'd be bored to tears with PDK. Agree with Bob; if you're going to do something maybe GT2. I know a 3RS is out due to your DD requirements but how about a pre-owned?
There was a carrera GT at Huntington that has your name all over it!!

One point I think should be made. 60,000 miles is not that much in the life of the car, but much over it will make re-sale harder and the price less and less. This may be an ideal time to trade off the car. Just something to put into the equation.
Stick with the 997.1, last of the true GT1 Metzger style engine, true dry sump, perhaps the greatest Porsche production engine ever with the G50 tranny. Plus you don't have to let go of alot of cash...only do it if the new one keeps you up at night and it really excites you
