what are the drawbacks of running no cats?

i'm thinking about picking up the cargraphic race and as you all know, it doesn't have any cats. are there any cons to running this set-up? i have read that having cats is better but i would assume that would be compared to just running a pipe straight from the turbo. at least with the cg race, you have a somewhat "full" system.

any input would be great. thanks

other than emissions, there is no downside to eliminating the cats. The increased exhaust pressure gradient across the turbines will only help improve spool and minimize lag

rear end of car exterior will most likely get more soot on it. i have a white car and still think it the exhaust under the tail and on rear bumper. I was told it is road grime caused by air flow. After checking further, it seems to me that it is the same oily residue in the exhaust pipes so I believe it it exhaust fall out. I hope it subsides as the car get some more miles on it. Right now I have 400 miles on the clock. I also have a stock exhaust on a turbo S.

Check the state laws as I believe in NJ tampering with emissions controls is a VERY serious offence and Califonia has to have "worse" laws in that respect than NJ.

other than angry prius drivers, sad polar bears, and potentially cops, there arent any reasons not to go catless.

To run decat it will need to be pretty well muffled system or it will drone like crazy at low rpm. My best advice is to try first the oem muffler decated.

I tried 100cpsi cats (the less restricted cats in the market) with straight pipes and i was ashamed for driving the car from the exhaust shop to home and in the nextday to the shop again. For a street car it was too much and seemed like garbage at low rpm - cruising speeds. The oem muffler put the sound to acceptable levels: no drone, quiet at low rpm and a whistle deeper sound at wot.

100 CPI cats and no mufflers may be louder than no cats + mufflers. With the mufflers you can 'engineer' some sound into it.

If you get it before it sets, I use a pressure washer, then an ONR hand wash and a Quick detail spray. If it sits and get embedded, I use clay bar with QD ONR, Menzerna 106FA on a LC white pad and a Flex DA. Cleans it right up

Two issues:

1) ILLEGAL in CA, especially in Costa Mesa & LA (I had FVD catless system and it's NO FUN). Always have to be on the look out because it's LOUD and attrack the wrong attention.
2) Drone from 2200-3000rpm.

GT2 muffler with 100 cell cats is working like a charm. Makes power, no drone, less weight, P sound but more aggressive

I think I should have been more specific. The sound itself is no issue. I have an M5 with a full exhaust from the evosport headers to the meisterschaft mufflers and that doesn't bother me . What I meant was, is there any harm in running catless to the 997tt specifically in terms of reliability or issues.

Seems like there are none though
