From 2011 Z06 back into a TT?????
From 2011 Z06 back into a TT?????
Guys,
I've never stopped lurking on this forum since I had my Protomotive 964 C4TT back in 05.
I've been waiting for the right time to get back into a Pcar again, and I think I might be ready again. (always ready, but $eady is more like it)
Now I've done my homework, and almost broke the search button, but wanted to double check with y'all before I pull the trigger.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN A 997.1 TT????
I would have them run the DME check
Check for leaky RMS
Car has adaptive seats, chrono, and diff lock.
Anything else that can go wrong?
Any little stuff mechanically? Common wear items etc..
Thanks
Greg

Check for spark plug replacement and factor in the cost ($1200)
Check to see if the hydraulic clutch assist has been replaced. If not, check it out carefully as it tends to go bad.
Radio ***** get funky over time
Scratches by the inner door handle
Look for dings on the hips. Not sure how it happens but it's a pain to fix.
Check rotors and pads, especially if PCCB
Check side rock guards for yellowing on lighter cars
Front Chin Spoiler

As you can see from my signature line, I am a former Z06 owner and the 997 Turbo is so much better in every conceivable way IMO. You will not be disappointed.
Also -- a spark plug replacement is nowhere near $1,200. It will run $400-500

VTG actuator rod recall.
Durametric DME readout - # programming operations may indicate flashed memory for tuning.
Oil in the hydraulic spoiler hinges (remove cap - oil = leaking = > $1000-$2500 replacement.)

I wish I lived where you live. If I use a dealership service department versus an indy, work hours for the job range $800-1200 in my area.

A client of mine recently traded his ZR1 in for a 997.1TT Cab. He couldn't be happier.
Good luck my man. I'm a former Z06 owner also. The 997TT is overall a superior car. You might still miss the raw power of the LS7 and the rear wheel drive. Otherwise, you are making a good move.

Front chin spoiler is 175 from sun coast unpainted easy mount DIY
Spark plugs can also be DIY, but a Porsche dealer usually charges around 600
Clutch accumulator (150 Sun coast) is usually the faulty culprit. Guys are upgrading clutches and pressure plates then overloading the stock setup. The slave is about 500, both can be replaced as a DIY but expect about four hours of Pcar Tech labor if the shop does it.
Radio ***** suck and I wish I knew of an easy fix but no dice yet.
The dings are a pain and the scratches are probably normal wear and tear for just about every car with age.
I would personally avoid PCCB since the rotors are 5000 to replace and they have to be heated properly for maximum stopping power. Paint your steel (red) calipers yellow and call it a day if you are that hung on them. I don't think it's worth it unless you just have that kind of money. OneFasTT hit on pretty much all the stuff. Everybody wants a pristine unmodified or flashed car but the truth is these cars were built to be raced and driven hard. Treat them as such with the right expecting the right stuff to wear out accordingly and you won't be disappointed. It boggles my mind when guys drive these cars and wonder why the clutch slips or the tires wear faster than their Lexus. Best of luck. Check the DIY section as well if you haven't already. The RMS is about 20 dollars but of course dropping the trans is where your money comes into play. The IMS or intermediate shaft upgrade is not applicable to the 997, but a rear main leak cost the same across the board.

Thanks guys!
All great stuff we'll look out for.
I would most likely not leave the car stock, and would upgrade the plugs and the clutch anyways, since that goes the moment you do a tune, or close to. But I'd like to have the ability to wait till Santa brings the goodies, not be rushed into it
The car does not have the PCCB, which I'm not interested in either.
The car is going through CPO inspection as we speak so worth the extra few bucks for the peace of mind of a warranty.
The Z06 is an amazing car, but I've been a Porsche guy since I saw Le Mans with Steve McQueen when I was 5!!! Nuff said!

Just test drove the Porsche.
Funny how they kept that same very upright and connected feel that the 80s Carreras had. Granted it's a tad muted, but in a civil and welcome way. Def too quiet for my taste but nothing the aftermarket can't fix.
The car still smelled of rich leather, which immediately puts it into a different class from the Z.
Car is as advertised. Clean, probably had the front bumper painted. No curb rash, some slight scuffs on the door sill, and steering wheel.
Power was fairly solid, but nothing earth shattering. On par with my Meth JB4 135i. Considering 88 degrees and AC blasting, it's a solid performer out of the box! Also something the aftermarket can remedy. Coming from the Z06, it did feel short legged. But having the low end thrust is preferable to my driving style.
Overall, great car. Need it like Oxygen!
Going to run some numbers and try to make it work.
Hope to have a different natured post in a couple of days.
