Thumbs up Catless 997.2 Turbo Europipe *Pics & Vids*

First, a little background. I had purchased the Shark Werks 997.2 Turbo Exhaust earlier this year from Alex. The guys at Shark Werks are awesome to work with. They gave me a small 6speed discount and couple nice t-shirts as well. This exhaust is basically a straight pipe. At WOT it screams and sounds glorious but at mild acceleration I thought it was a bit lacking in sound/tone. Even before my purchase I had always planned to get a set of hi-flow cat's for this system as I knew the DFI engine is really quiet. Now that I have confirmed first hand the lackluster sound I decided it was time to get more noise out of the system and more turbo whistle. I contacted one of our vendors and had a custom set of 200 cell cats made. Unfortunately, twice the cats failed to fit properly which was a PITA. After a couple months of going back and forth and the wasted time I decided to scrap the whole idea of Shark Werks exhaust mated to a set of hi-flow cats and contacted Stef. Here's where the fun begins!

I should have went with Stef from the beginning. I've been communicating with Stef since late 2010 when I got my turbo. I was always worried that Stef's Europipe system with his beautiful 100 cell cats would still be on the quiet side for my DFI engine. Stef advised that on the new engine drone is really not an issue with an aftermarket exhaust as it's just that quiet. So I decided to have Stef build me the first catless 997.2 Turbo Europipe system. Stef and his brother built the system for me very quickly. I don't really need to go into how great he is because you all already know but you have to really appreciate his level of commitment to us. He advised that if I didn't like the system I could simply send it back for a full refund or that if it was too loud I could send it back and he would slap on a set of his world renowned 100 cell cats.

Anyway, without me paying extra and at his own expense Stef overnighted the exhaust to me from Belgium to Canada. I'm sure that wasn't cheap since the box is the size of a large coffee table and the weight of a 12 year old child.

**Observations**

I installed the exhaust myself. Fitment is perfect! And I mean bang on. After all the issues I had with the custom 200 cell cats and to have these test pipes fit perfectly my eyes started to tear
If I can make a suggestion. You will need a special tool to access the half sized bolt that hold up the large heat shields. There is no access as the turbo is in the way so you will need some kind of crooked specialised tool. You'll need to drop the heat shields in order to access the 02 sensor wires.

Let me remind you I am running an OEM tune. With windows up there is no drone with the exhaust. I am amazed that with being catless there is nothing of that sort. If anything it is as much drone as the stock exhaust. I hear more road noise from the tires than anything else. The turbo whistle has gone from non-existent to now an apparent reality. It really takes driving to a new level. The sound of the exhaust is now more Porsche like. It has a beautiful raspy but throaty tone. It screams at WOT more so than the Shark Werks did. In all honesty I wouldn't mind if the exhaust was a bit louder and had some drone. However, Stef advised that once I get an aftermarket tune the cam timing will change, turbo vanes will open up more, and exhaust valves will stay open longer which, will make the Europipe louder and scream more at WOT. Regardless, I love it and I'm really glad I did not go with the 100 cell cats. Anyhow, I'll let the pictures and videos below do the rest of the talking. One thing that we never have enough of are good videos of the Europipe exhaust in action. I tried my best to remedy that.

This one recorded with a Rode VideoMic Pro. Major turbo whistle

After the launch forward to 45 second mark for some WOT sweetness

Nice pictures and videos and I'm glad that you're happy with the new exhaust. The normal catted version sounds more refined while your exhaust sounds raw and racy. You're supposted to drive the catless version on the track only, don't you?

Too bad it took you so long to swap the exhausts. I did include the special banana style 12mm wrench and the banana style 12mm ratchet and new 12mm nuts. However, for some reason the early model 2010 997.2 Turbos came with the older style 13mm nuts and these have the tendency to seize big time. I apologize for this inconvenience but it is still unclear to me from which VIN on they switched from 13mm nuts to the current 12mm nuts. It's not even mentioned on their parts list: number 19 in the picture.

Anyway, have fun and drive safely.

Cheers

Sounds great. I've had two EP2's on 997.1 TT's and wouldn't change anything. Mechanics refer to the EP systems as "man jewlery" for the car! Fix the brakes - love the turbine whistle but the brake noise is very distracting.

Looks nice and glad you got the louder sound you wanted minus the cats! I was hoping someone would make decent/affordable OEM style high-flow cat replacements by now but they're hard to come by!

We are scrapping our emissions testing here by next year. Most cars on the road here are late model 1990's and up. But no I don not expect it to pass emmision testing.

Hmm I'm not much for car meets but what's E2@rtc? I would love to drive her down to WA but you know how much it rains in the Pacific NorthWest and I never drive her in the rain.
