Radar Detector

Hey guys, looking to finally get one - held out a long time. So, what's the best choice, the Escort 9500 or the Valentine 1. Not interested in the full Escort laser jammer solution; I know the Escort now has the phone link for real time updates and seems like what I would pick. Suggestions?

Go for the Valentine, but I really suggest you get the laser jammer installed. It has saved me a handful of times so far.

$1700 plus install is beyond my needs. Wondering how the two compare without the accessories.

If you are not going to get Jammers, you will spend more than $1700 on your first attorney who represents you in court for speeding. Further, you will be hard pressed to beat a laser ticket. Plus your increases insurance premiums will hit you hard for the speeding points.

Don't speed or suit up for the game. Your choice-IMHO. If you decide not to do Jammers save your money on the detector. My laser shifter warning has saved my A$$ alot in NY on 95 and on 495 and the Meadowbrook.

I run a 9500CI custom Stealth Install dome by Detailing Dymanics in Mineola and it is hidden and works great.

Search my name here and it should come up.

Good Luck!

V1 without a doubt. A jammer wouldn't be a bad option as I was caught with laser doing 85 in a 55 (and still accelerating!). Ironically, riding to the local CnC. Cop let me off but kept asking me if my V1 "went off like a Christmas tree light" when he hit me with the gun. It did and I don't fully trust any detector without a jammer now. Fortunately, laser guns are still less common due to their higher costs... But ya never know.

Laser guns are all over SoCal streets, I dont recall the last time I was hit with radar on the street, its been over 6 years I'd guess. I run into radar via CHP on I5 heading up to the Bay from LA once in a while though.

laser jammer should be had before the detector IMO if your going to do 10 over the limit.

I'm in SoCal as well and pick up radar 4x as much as laser. The freeway cops are always using radar because they are too lazy and too difficult to point at each car coming. The ones on the quiet side streets use laser more frequently. But be careful. Detectors are legal in Ca but jammer are illegal. If you get caught with one, they will confiscate it and give you a big fine or even a misdeamoner if you're determined to be "actively" using it.

Had escort got rid of it, if you want the best go with Valentine 1, you will thank me later. Knowing where the signal coming from is 1 of the most important features I believe and sensitivity. Don't worry those damn infiniti's with laser cruise control will set off the laser detector part. But without this extra sensitivity you can say bye bye to preventing a ticket. I would also install a laser jammer as well. I would talk to cliff and get the radar detector group buy sale. Email below
Best money spent buy the quad sensor as the police will hit you with laser from the front and the back.

On my commute up the 605 I see laser traps all the time, CHP bikes shooting, cars chasing down. On the 710 I see almost monthly the white CHP car shooting lasers at trucks heading to the port.

Sometimes the CHP car will sit under the bridge and shoot radar on the 605, when I have seen that he is solo, no group trap in effect.

Over last 5 years in the Turbo Ive been lit up by Long Beach, Seal Beach, Huntington and Newport bike cops...all laser. Was not speeding so no issues, V1 lit up but no time to adjust speed, thats for sure.

Driving across Montana yearly Ive only been tagged with radar. All depends on how much $$ the department has.

Interesting. Guess I can start with the 9500 and consider the laser jamming upgrade. You've been hit by laser on I95? I've seen them sitting, but never aiming a gun out the window. I'm also in CT pretty often, I wonder if they are using laser. I like the phone link feature of the 9500 as well.

A little while ago the choice was clear for the V1, now it seems not so clear.

I used 9500IX and the laser interceptor both for my 977TT and 16M. love the combination and works out great. I used to have the V1 but too many false alarm that drive me nuts. I know someone mentioned b4 that you can pre-set and it will have less false alarm. I am sure V1 will be working out great too but Escort is my personal preference

good luck
