New to Me: 2007 Turbo - Other Tip Drivers?

OK - just purchased a Meteor Grey 997TT with 19K miles - mint shape - but, yes....it has the Tiptronic. (frequent Boston traffic, wife, etc..) I'm now getting slammed by my "car friends"..saying I should have purchased a manual, true Porsche has a stick..like your old one, etc etc.. Shrugged it off at first - now, I'm losing sleep (but, it's only been a few days - maybe I'll learn to love it - hec, I did on the drive ; )

Question: How many folks went through the same deal (or ordeal) & how many folks still love their tip?? (yes, trying to make myself feel better) -TPT

I have a tip and never thought twice. First mod was a paddle shift steering wheel. I go on drives with some very fast cars, Lambo, Ferrari, Austin Martin and my car is has shown time and time again to be in the same league in terms of speed. Tip cars always get slammed by the guys who don't drive them. Done loose any sleep with a few mods your car will run with the best of them and in some cases embarrasses some cars twice the price. ECU and exhaust is all you need if you really want extra power. Relax you made the right choice.

Thanks for that - I've already been looking at potential slight mods - which brings me to another point - if anyone has suggestions for simple mods (& best place to purchase / cost) - LMK. Hmm....I do like the paddle shift idea...I do miss the connection I had w/my 6sp - maybe a few mods would negate that. HIUGE thanks M3 for the shot in the arm!

Have a friend who went from manual to tip about 6 months ago because it's his DD and he sits in the I-95/Merritt pkwy traffic in fairfield county every day. Both cars were/are modded and he's been more than happy with the tip he has now. Easier on a day to day basis when ur sitting in 5-20 mph traffic for miles on end every day and his tip car is just as fun as the manual was. But i do agree with the poster above me though about the first mod.

I wanted a manual too. But decided on the tip because of the faster 0-60 time as well as the convenience. I drive around almost exclusively in the manual tip mode and never have felt I was missing the gear changing as I do the exact same thing I do in my other car that is a manual--hold the gears longer and shift when I feel like it. But even better, and don't quote me on this, I believe the tip is safer on the engine. I don't think you can dangerously over-rev the engine as it shifts for you if you hold it too far. Others can chime in on that but that has been my experience.

Very interesting - Maybe simply having the mindset and approach of actually driving it like a manual - & hec, IF it's ok on the engine...that would help - cool/thx.

Nice! I'll take the next few weeks learning to get the most out of pushing those buttons -
Still trying to find something online that explains the best way to drive the Tip...

Have no doubt in your purchase

I owned both, an 07 Turbo manual and now a 08 Turbo Tip (both great cars)

In my opinion, the tip brings the best of both worlds, as when you want that "manual type feel" of controlling the gears, downshifting, etc, you can use your steering wheel controls, and when you want to drag/ 1/4 / rip off the line, the good ole sport button and putting it in drive, does the trick for sure

Enjoy the car

Rest assured you have an amazing setup. IMO you just need more time in the car to really understand what it can do, how to drive it within your limits and ultimately how it fares against some of the quickest cars out there.

Auto vs stick will be debated forever, fact is more and more high end sports cars will be auto type e.g. PDK.

People have preferences and auto makers provide options, to me it's that simple. Too often some get caught up in what's "better"....what does that mean.

If better = performance then how is that being defined. Exhaust and tune and you're in the 10's. if better = driving experience then that is driver preference. If better = what others think...head to the track with your buds and let your skills + vehicle do the talking.

Enjoy your car!

Tip..

Agree 100% - Less than a week in the car - so, time will certainly tell. Snowing here in Boston today - sunny and 50 tomorrow (New England weather) I'll start to explore the car's capabilities..at some point...new tune, exhaust and eventually stereo (my stock audio/stereo is simply dreadful - it must not be the optional Bose - music was not a priority when shopping - easy fix I'm sure)

Great Stuff - THX
