C7 Corvette Stingray VS. 2013/2014 Shelby GT500

Greetings. I am new to these forums and decided to make an account here because it seems like this is the place to come for American Muscle car enthusiasts, without a heavy bias towards one car or another. I'll give a little background first. I used to own a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT that I did some work to and owned that car for about 3 years. I loved that car and it was sickening to see it go, but had to at the time.

Now I have the means to get back into a fun/fast car, and the two cars I am split between is the new C7 Corvette Stingray and the 2013/2014 Shelby Mustang GT500. I know I know, how can you compare these two cars, they are two completely different animals. The reason I am comparing them is mostly because they are both around the same price (most likely), and are BOTH freakin' fast! They are two different styles of car. The shelby being more of a muscle car, with raw, pure American fun and brutality, and the stingray being a sports car with more finesse, a sleeker design and better handling. My question to you guys is, if you had to pick one of these two cars, which would you pick and why? Which do you think is more fun to drive? Whichever is more practical isn't a factor, just pick for pure fun. I am so split between the two. I like them both a lot, but for different reasons. I'm really stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

Anybody drive the 2013 GT500 that would like to share their experience? Hows the shifter? I hear it can be quite notchy? I'm hoping for some un-biased answers but hey, we can all be a little biased sometime Already all my co-workers are swaying me to the Shelby. They're telling me it's a "man's car" and the corvette is mostly for people that want a fancy, flashy car that have the money to spend and are mostly in their mid to upper 50's or older, whereas the GT500 owners are more of the "enthusiasts," and the car also looks tougher rather then "prettier" What do you guys think???

What about the BOSS 302? Not as powerful as the Shelby, but also more track-ready for when you want a sportscar.

I considered the BOSS 302 but I wanted something that's at the very least, the same as my G8 was acceleration wise as a starting point.

Very different cars.

The Shelby is a Muscle car, the Vette a sports car, really depends on what u want out of he car.

As to the Boss, I bet it accelerates at least as well as your G8 did. 444hp stock pulls to 7500 rpm.

That's the problem. Figuring out which style is for me. Basically I'm looking for which of the two is more fun to drive. The back seat really isn't necessary, as it won't be a daily driver. I never drove a car like a corvette before. I can't decide if I just want the brute force of the Shelby, or the finesse and agility of the Corvette. It's all about which is more fun to drive. Unless, of course, the C7's acceleration is slower then what I am anticipating. Then I'd be leaning towards the GT500.

And yes, I really love the boss, but the quicker acceleration of the GT500 and Vette is what is very appealing to me. My G8 had long tubes, full exhaust, CAI, cam, heads, tune etc. On a mustang dyno, it put down 441 RWHP corrected to 77 degrees I believe. Uncorrected was 435. It ran low 12s, high 11s at about 118-119 MPH

A 2013 GT500 with a few low cost bolt-ons of CAI/TB/Tune and drag radials is a high 10's 1/4 mile. Change pulleys to up the boost and it will be faster. That's around a full second faster in the 1/4 mile. It will not be as strong in the turns but, as you said, it is a different animal.

You might want to wait to see what the new Boss will be. I was excited to hear the rumor of a Boss 351.

^This. I have friends who love their cars but I can't stand them, and vice versa. Drive both and do what feels good.
