Gt2 or turbo s
Gt2 or turbo s
Hello everybody,
I have recently bought a 2009 turbo convertible, it is a 3.6 turbo with pcm3.
My car is a 6 speed manual. I have always had coupes, a 996 turbo, bmw m3,..
I would like to go back to a coupe, but now i have a choice between a 2009 gt 2 and a 2011 turbo s.
Does some one have experience with this cars?
I m looking for a weekend car, it doesn't have to be a dd.
Which one is faster, has more character?
Thanks

2009 GT2s will be much harder to find than 08s, not many of them around. For a weekend car I'd pick the GT2 over the TTS.
I know you didn't ask and might not care, but the GT2s will hold their value better in the long run.

Hope you are an experience driver since the GT2 is a tougher car to drive. Tthe GT2 has more power and is rear drive only, thus it requires more
attention to drive than the Turbo. A friend had one for weekends and end up using it only on track. Good luck.

I have find a gt 2 with the pcm3, something i really wanted.
Is a gt2 that difficult to drive?
I m not a pro , but a car enthousiast who likes to drive a sports car.
If i put other tires, like new dunlops race maxx, Will it be a safer car?

A tire swap can help, but imho, if a tire swap from already good tires is for peace of mind for a "safer" car, I don't think that is a good resolution to ease your mind.
Unless of course the current tires are worn, faulty, notorious, etc.
The other question is, what kind of driving do you really enjoy AND don't enjoy?

I personally never drove the car. My friend is practically a semi professional driver and that is why he end up driving the car at tracks only. According to him the car is to powerful and difficult to drive in the street. He used to own a 996 Turbo before the GT2 and he prefer the turbo for the streets. Something similar happens to the GT3. Again I have never driven one, but I read tons of article before I bought my actual 2008 Turbo Cab. By the way between the 996 Turbo and the 997.1 Turbo Cab, I bought a 997.1 Carrera S. In my opinnion the driving experience is totally difference not only in power [480hp vs. 355hp] but to stability, cornering, etc. According to these articles in order to avoid getting in trouble with these cars [GT2 & GT3] driver should pay attention at all times. I believe there is road or track test of the GT2 by Top Gear [UK version] which describe the power and handling of the car. Maybe its helpful to make your decision. Good luck.

I was wrong. The review of the GT2 was in the program Fifth Gear and not top gear. Below the link.

I have a GT2 and have never gone to a driving school or tracked the car. I find it a very easy car to drive as a daily driver and mine has been highly modded by it's original owner. See article here. http://www.reevesimportmotorcars.com...ne-Article.pdf
I also had a Turbo S until a few months ago. Often I would come home in one car and leave in the other. Other than the very stiff clutch, the GT2 is just as easy to drive. The biggest difference is PDK vs. manual & all wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive. The all wheel drive can save you where the 2 wheel drive can get you in trouble at the limits. You are lucky to find an '09 as you get the new PCM. In the U.S. only about 10% of GT2s where '09s.

Recently was on a spirited drive with a friend in a TTS through some windy mountain roads. We switched cars so he could feel the difference. He exited my car laughing and said WOW that is a freakin race car, my car is just a grand tourer in comparison. During this comparison it also became clear to me that its much easier to drive the GT2 to its limits than an AWD turbo. The AWD takes away feedback of the front wheels grip to the steering wheel and thus I was guessing how much harder I could push it till I lose grip, steering felt very numb. When I got back to my car I could push it till the steering wheel said, you are breaking grip, just hold it steady. The GT2 also feels so much lighter and tighter.
Since you don't want to DD the car, go test drive both of them and see for yourself.
Let us know.
Being a HP junkie, I would always say go with the GT2...absolutely will be more of a driving experience, that coming from a guy who has a TTS. I have different cars for different reasons. I LOVE my Porsche, but honestly there is no comparing the smile put on your face from the driving experience of a good ol American V8 with a big cam and 620 rwhp. I chose the S as an freaking ridiculously fast grand tourer with all the luxury and creature comforts, both put a smile on your face...if you can only have one...go for the GT2 no question.
Ok everybody thanks for your reactions.
I drive in the week a mercedes van, as dd i have an audi 240 ps diesel power.
So when i drive my porsche it has to give me a big smile every minute inside.
I m not going to track it , just from time to time a joy ride.
I think that i m going to testdrive a gt2 first. Big advantage is it is a manual car.
I want to change gears my self.
Will keep every one updated.
Thanks
