Champion wheels and cleaning

Just thought I'd post this up. Was busy cleaning some really dirty wheels. Thunderstorms here make it almost impossible to keep them clean. Here is the before:

Now here are the after pics. What is the secret to the cleaning magic? P21? Some other magic wheel cleaner? Nope. Simple soap and water. What is the secret to getting clean wheels? Having wheels with a great finish. I've never had wheels with a better polished clear coat and paint than these Champions. BTW, rears are 19X12 with 44 offsets and they fit perfectly on the turbo with 305 wheels. Oh, also note that the Michelin Super Sports in 305 have a terrific rim protector, clearly seen in the pics. You can EASILY run a 305 on a 12" rim and still have rim protection. I was very happily surprised by the combo. I don't think the PS2's have nearly the same benefit. The rims don't even look like 12's and the tires don't appear stretched at all. A great combo for the turbo or other wide-bodied cars.

C, I do recognize these pretty wheels now. They were among my very top choices in 2008 when I was looking. You don't know how many hours I sat staring at them! If you have pics, please post a shot of the car with these wheels on. It would be nice to see.

How I hate washing wheels; and just happen to be the most important part in the car to keep clean to make the look "pop." A few years older and I am sure this is going to be someone else's job :-).

I've got RF67's, and they are a ***** to clean, will take your knuckles off.

Tried the xmas tree brush - waste of time, splatters brake dust everywhere.

Tried the sponges from Griot's, they work well for the inner barrels.

So what has worked from my end is this: P21S wheel gel to start. Wash car. Wash wheels last. Good blast from hose (normal pressure) gets a lot of it out. Then griots handled brush for inner barrels. Then a couple of cotton cloths I dedicate just to wheels. Getting in and behind spokes is not fun, no easy way.

I do use microfiber gloves and apply Rejex (we sell it) every few months to the entire wheel, and this helps.

But the worst wheel I have to deal with beyond these is the sport wheels on the '12 Audi A8L. Fuggetaboutit.

That's funny, they look easier to clean! The rg5s are really a snap with a little finger mitt.

Have you tried Sonax? I spray down my wheels, then rinse them with a pressure washer and never have to even touch the wheels.

i have sonax...its great if the wheels havent been in the rain, but once they have still requires a true hand cleaning

so i use it sparingly now

otherwise soap, water, and elbow grease

Very, very nice - look great! Don't place a whole lot of confidence in the PSS "rim protector" - slightest brush against a curb will compress the rubber and scratch the rim.

Definitely agreed. The addition helps a bit though and they don't look stretched even on a 12" rim.
