Back in 99tt for the 5th time (with new records?)
Hello fellow members,
Well it is time for some vboxing again... After setting the record with my ESS E92 M3 back in 2012 if you remember I got into a V8 R8... whereas this was absolutely gorgeous and very very well built car and fun to drive etc it was not actully burning rubber... so after 4-5 months I sold that one as well and got me another black 997tt (my 3rd 997tt) but tip this time! I flashed the ecu with APR and got me an EP2 and called it a day... I did some runs recording high 6's 60-130mph but I did not send them in as I have already better times on the list from my old 997's!
Then again after enjoying the black 997 I got a very good offer that I simply could not pass and I sold that one as well!
I had my eyes set on a white 997.2 Turbo S (one of only 2 in Greece) but I missed it to another buyer by 20 mins literally, while I was on the way with the cash in hand to buy it! I was hammered as it is not the easiest thing to find such cars in Greece anymore (new they cost in excess of 300k euros) and was looking at my options when I called a friend of mine who is a collector and asked if he was selling his Turbo! And indeed after making the deal of the decade, he went off to order a brand new 991 Turbo S (the first in Greece) and I drove off with his very rare slate grey 997tt tip again fully loaded and with some twists! This was back in April this year!
The car has completely stock internals and has Cargraphic's Powerkit stage 3 (upgraded Vtg's - full exhaust with headers - carbon intake pipes) + GT2RS ic's + IPD Plenum + MKB tip upgrade! It was running on early years rs-tuning ecu set at 600HP crank and very moderate tuning (was basically restricted heavily by software) and no tcu upgrade!
I could not log any better time than 7.5 sec for 60-130mph which was in accordance with what cargraphic was stating, but as you can understand this was simply not acceptable from me... esp since I was on a fully built gearbox + I had the IC's!
So after looking at my options (first option was TK from Proto, but I had to send my ecu abroad because obd would not work in my case) I called my good friend Mike Paridis from Dynoexelixis Greece and we retuned my ecu with his latest software + tuned my tcu with a stage 3 tune (7000rpm limiter)! Boom!
Immediately I was blown away! I honestly could not believe it! My very first test run after installing the new tunes was a 6.3sec@ 20C (verified by MB) and with no adaptation time at all and on pump gas!
I knew the car could do a lot better after a few miles and adaptation and when the wheather got a bit cooler and I could break easily into mid-high 5's! So last night and as wheather was a bit colder @ 12C I thought I would go for dedicated best run and see how I would do...
Run conditions:
a. file has adapted after putting on 200-300 miles since last time
b. temps were at about 12C (whereas last time they were 20C)
c. I put some Torco in the tank just to see how it will do
d. I was running on the highway for a good 20 mins before I attempted the run (at the exact same spot as last time) at a constant speed of 120kmh (temps were perfect) and then boom I hit the gas pedal in 2nd gear in auto and held on!
Result that is now verified here by M.B. was 60-130mph in 4.84sec!
I still can not believe it and even now I do not know how I pulled it...
Pls do not get me wrong... I have been in this game for a long long time with literally thousands of vbox runs on all kinds of cars and conditions and I do know how things work! My car will not get these nrs all day long in every possible condition... It is rather a repeating high 5's-6sec car and these are constant results and very very happy with these numbers! But on special conditions (like I believe most -if not all- of the lists records have been recorded) it can -and apparently did- pull this astonishing time!
On a sidenote the gearbox is just lightning fast now and the torque simply breathtaking! Boost is abt 1.55 bar in overboost and falls to 1.3 bar... with healthy afrs and absolutely excellent and smooth engine operation!
Car is stock weight with pccb and heavy cargrpaphic 19's and a big cargraphic GT2 carbon wing!

To be honest I do not know the exact spec of the turbos but they are Cargraphic upgraded Vtg's that they use in their powerkits (I believe they are 63.5mm but then again I could be wrong)! The kit was on the car when I bought it!
amazing bro congrats on your gr8 time! hope to see more ppl with those numbers on VTGs.
I believe that there are some cars running low 5's on vtg's for quite some time now...
*Pls make a note here (as I described above) that this number was a result of a solo dedicated 60-130mph run under specific conditions and all things going 100% perfect to achieve this time! It is not -like I said- a constant sub 5sec car like the big guys with the big builds out there! It is however a very solid mid-high 5's car and very happy with it!
Big congrats on both this 4.84 (that's insane by the way) and the 6.16 on the M3! I've been chasing your M3 record to no avail. My '13 M3 coupe has been blown with the ESS VT2 650 + water/meth but haven't got a chance to do any 60-130s in cold conditions where the slope was advantageous (initial upslope with trailing downslope). We run on airstrips here in SoCal, but it's a 0% slope so we will never break any records. There are some ideal places to run where -2.5% slopes are possible (our "Toll" roads) but that's taking the risk of jail time if caught.
I just added a 997.2 Turbo S to my stable and will be getting the Champion/GIAC tune soon and attending an Airstrip event in three weeks so I look forward to seeing what I can do with this beast.
I look forward to reading more about your build and seeing you break your own records over again!

Thanks for your nice comments!

Even though it has been more than 18 mths (and 3 cars ago) from when I was in my beloved M3 (even for a short period) I have to tell you I very frequently watch and enjoy all bimmer news but mostly your excellent videos and detailed analysis!!! Really great work man!
Abt the M3 record running a dedicated vbox run is a lot different than taking a number from a 1/4 mile or full roll on race etc.... under the right conditions your car should be faster than mine (although I have to point here I am not a fan of meth...)Welcome to the 997tt family!!!! I know you will enjoy it and have a blast in it... Trully a remarkable car! The problem is that for us tuning addicts it is a damn good car to mod and thus be prepared to spend $$$$$

Having said that results can be literally breathtaking...
Looking forward to your reviews/results/videos!
Very happy to help you anyway I can...

Thank you...
I never really left...
Yeah it is crazy indeed.. I think you misunderstood or more likely I did not explain it so good... I meant I was crusing @ 120km/h (74.5mph well noted thanks) so the car would be at optimum temps (nice and cold intake air, chill turbos etc) and dropped speed (obviously below 60 miles) and then hit the pedal for one run only and this was it!
Thanks filos!

Many thanks my friend!!! Very happy...
You told me car was feeling fast indeed, but I did not expect this...
