997.1 without Sport Chrono - is the retrofit worth the $$

I bought my 997.1 a couple months ago and it didn't have the sport chrono function. I can buy the retrofit from Suncoast, but I'm wondering if it's worth the $$ ($900 I think plus install). Looks like I get the overboost and throttle changes.

I'm curious how much the sport button alters the stability control settings. On the street I'm hesitant to turn it off but wondering how much slip is allowed in sport mode. As it stands, the stability control seems a little conservative.

Alternatively, I could just do a tune, though I'm under CPO warranty and hesitant to do that until I'm out if warranty.

Has anyone done the retrofit? Thoughts on sport versus non sport function?

Disregard...newb forgot to search. Looks like I'll be doing this as a stopgap until I get a tune.

I don't feel any change in the PSM with Sport mode, it doesn't allow slip like it does on a GT3RS.

Ah, just realized I was reading the price for the non-turbo model. Turbo retrofit is $1600 plus install...which means I'll be doing the Softronic.

the sports chrono is much better than the softronic. If you want a tune get a real one GIAC.

Or read up on Scott if they guys that called him out didnt delete their posts. These are guys in the industry.

I am pretty much in the same boat. I own a 2007 997 Turbo manual without sport chrono and after reading the threads I am still not sure if its worth spending the $1600 plus the $100 to $200 in dealer programing to not get any horsepower.(Since what it basically does is that it changes the fuel and timing maps to get the torque earlier in the power band according to the owners manual other than controlling PSM). But then, having the option of switching between two modes sounds quite tempting. I don't know. Kind of a difficult decision specially if for a little bit more money you could get a full tune.

That is my suggestion because I would never buy Porsche turbo without it. You can feel the difference when you push the button Even more so in my 2010, you can hear the exhaust note change. I still don't understand why Porsche did not put this on every car as standard equipment.

I almost never use it. The throttle response is worthless for the street. I am not sure why people treat it as a serious feature, it's a gimmick IMO. Maybe it's OK if you have an automatic, but definitely not a 6 spd. Get a tune, and as far as softronic goes there was just a thread with several people talking about how they loved their softronic tunes. FVD provides a similarly priced offering.

IMO the difference between Sport and non Sport mode pales in comparison to the (very very noticeable) difference between a stock ECU and a tuned ECU. Just spend a bit more and get a tune.
With all of the reported MAF sensor problems, I decided to go with the Protomotive mafless tune and have not regretted it once. It's also nice if your a DIY type. You can get a durametric cable and do your own logging and flashing, through email with Todd K. Great customer service from a Porsche fanatic.

Selling and buying a new one would cost significantly more than the <$2k retrofit. I agree it should have been standard. For the price of the retrofit though, I'd rather put that money towards a solid tune, be it GIAC or otherwise.

I agree this is not an option. I bought my car around 6 months ago. I purchase it with 9,800 miles knowing that I can do the sport-mode retrofit whenever I liked in the future. There was no way in the world I could've afford a 997 turbo with the color and conditions I was expecting until I saw this one.

The fact that it didn't have sport-chrono was not a consideration for me. I am just thinking in the future if for some reason I need to sell the vehicle I don't want this to be something that can make a buyer back out. And then of course comes my "power-hunger" desire to get some extra ponies out of this beauty(via a flash). Of course if money wasn't the problem, I would consider doing both. But this is not an option. So what would be better if you had to make a decision, Porsche sport mode or Flash?

Being that he has a CPO car I would not do either until the CPO is expired. I have a CPO car also and want the assurance that if something breaks Porsche will fix it and it will not cost me. When my car is off warranty then I will step up to a 991TT. I know many people are leery of buying a used Porsche Turbo without a warranty that has had the computer flashed.
