bored and was thinking: Dying Stitching

So I was sitting here thinking. It might be cool to change up the interior ( not commmitted just thinking) and why not just dye the threads the color you want? Seeing thats basicaly what a color is, a dyed thread. I had asked a shop regarding changing colors on a Boat seat and they said just dye it if its threars as thats what happens anyways

What is everyone thoughts. Again hypothetical here. I am tempted to try it though, on somethign besides the car for starters.

What color is your stitching now? I have had a similar thought myself. If it's white it would be easy to go any color, but mine is grayish and I was thinking it would need to be white before changing.

The same. I was thinking red. You can bleach it white. But I want a darker red so the light gray might be perfect

How do you dye just the thread without screwing up the leather?

Use a fabric dye pen and wipe it off as you go. That's what the upholstery guy told me.

I wish there was a way to turn them white or bright silver for contrast.

I don't recommend bleaching - not only does it damage the surrounding leather, but it dramatically weakens the thread, making it fray in a high friction area. The OEM silver/grey painted red will not look as bright red as OEM deviated red stitching.

This is a great thread as I am in this predicament now. Do I paint my stitching orange or get the interior re-stitched? Hmmm lol.

Cars are such biatch on the pocket :-)
