Strange over-rev report. Need help
Hi guys,
I was planning to buy a 09 997tt.1 car, with 25k miles and which looks totally clean, one owner, full service history and etc. However when I asked Porsche dealer to retrieve over-rev report, it shows 1 ignition for Range 4, 1 for Range 5, and 1 for range 6. Is it real issue or the numbers may be wrong? Generally I would expect 4 > 5 > 6 in numbers if they are real. Just one occurrence for 4,5 and 6 looks strange for me. but the car is sold at market price, so if it may have potential engine problems I would pass on it.

Looks like false data that the computer picked, it is impossible for those numbers to exist like that.
What does it show for the hours when it occured and what are the 1-3 like?
Based off the info you gave I wouldnt worry.

The over revs don't work like that....trust me. If you have 1 level 6 then the level 5 HAS TO BE 2 or more and if you have 2 level 5 then you have to have 3 or more level 4's. So 4-6 can not be all the same.
In this case I would bet the computer recorded data incorrectly...they are not infallible.

It doesn't record how many times you did it, it records the number of ignitions that occur in that rpm range and it is cumulative.
At 6750 rpm there are about 112 revolutions per second and 3 ignitions per revolution...so at 6750 rpm you get 336 ignitions per second. So if the overrev range for range 1 said 336 on the DME then that means the car spent exactly one second in the range one or above overrev.

ok that makes sense I took it as showing 1 full over rev not just the number 1 as taht is impossible. however on the flip side if the car DME says 1 by mistake it could not have recorded the actual overrev. Frankly that does concern me as its going to reaise questiosn with everyone that he attemps to sell it too
Post a photo of over rev page to see engine hours where each range last ignition occured.if the car is manual it can happen.dme was read by piwis or durametric? Piwis cant go wrong...dura can...
Dont have photo, 4-5-6 single ignition had the same engine hours, about 150 hours back from current. I believe it was piwis, a special purpose panasonic computer that they connect your car to.
