changing the head unit and resale...

Hey guys,

Need some opinions. Have low mileage 2012 997.2 TTS, it is 3 day a week car. The older PCM and Bose are not up to my standards. I hate no Bluetooth. No HD radio bugs me. No back up camera sucks. I want to get a Pioneer unit and trim kit from Delray customs, and am also contemplating their speakers, amp, and sub box replacement.

I bought this car early this year and wanted to keep some flexibility in case I want to trade it in down the line. So far, I love this car, and cannot imagine something that meets more of my needs for a sports car. I guess a 991 TTS would be a great step up, but I don't know how long it will take for those suckers to drop into $110K zone.

I kinda feel that with the Pioneer deck, this car will have everything I would want: acceleration, handling, some space, looks, and technology.

I have a C63 as a daily driver for another 2 years, and it has every sensor and option. This is my primary commute car.

For me, listening to my music, with the Sharkwerks muffler delete in the background, windows down, and shifting with the PDK is about the best car experience I can imagine.

Delray says everything is wired to plug and play into factory harnesses.

So can you guys see keeping your cars for 5+ years and getting some good return of enjoyment on your mods? Or do you plan to keep it stock, garage queen it a bit and turn it into something else?

PS>I am not a big fan of attention so trading for an exotic in the future is not really for me. Not excited about people taking pictures of my Ferrari or Lambo.

Thanks guys!

In my opinion since I replaced my entire system and added subs you shouldn't settle get what you want and worry about the resale $$$ later it's your car and I didnt like the no Bluetooth, HD radio DVD either and my system sounds amazing!

I would pass, don't want the headaches of a car that has the electrical system cut up.

Get someone competent to install and the changes are reversible. I have all the old parts sitting right here and if I ever did chose to go that route, I could have them put back in.

I wouldn't touch a car with a modded aftermarket PCM.

Its a shame, Porsche is behind when it comes to head units, my buddies new Durango has built in Wifi to it. As for aftermarket head units; it was a must for me, I went with Pioneer and added sat radio, Bluetooth, nav, and a back up camera.

I can't imagine why someone would pass on a car wth an aftermarket PCM. The install kits are plug and play so there is no wire hacking. If you change speakers and amps that can all be restored without issue as we'll.

I recently changed out my factory PCM for a kenwood (ddx991hd) I love it. Much better interface. Good Bluetooth for phone and audio. Back up camera and front camera are going in soon.

I kept the factory PCM so when I sell if someone really wants this unit back in I can do so with ease.

I guess this debate is similar to those worries about an ecu flash or modified exhaust etc. Not all mods will be for everyone. Do what makes YOU happy while you own the car. Worry about resale when the time comes. I highly doubt you'll have a hard time selling Down the road

Hello
What kind of lowering springs you have? Your car is one of the best looking Porsches I've ever seen, love how your wheels look on this cars. One more question how much did you pay for the sound system upgrade?

Exactly. It's a lazy afternoon to go back to stock with no permanent scars.

In fact there are no scars (temporary or permanent) in doing it unless someone chose not to research and purchase the kits that allow a P&P install.

excuse my newly discovered ignorance, but I thought the PCM (3/3.1) on all 997.2 turbos (as well as 09' 997.1) had Bluetooth, ipod connectivity and Sirius/xm radio? this is relevant as i'm in the market for a 997.2 TT and is important to me. any explanation will be appreciated. sorry OP, don't mean to hijack your post

One word though. Adding an aftermarket head will lead to many error messages in the computer when you go to the dealer. They are all related to a lack of communications between the pcm and various units on the car such as the steering column. These can be removed but they come back right away.
No big deal but if you bring it in for service, let the mechanic know so he doesn't suspect there's a problem somewhere.

Techart springs, thanks for the compliment, and are you just asking about equipment or install labor? I bought my equipment separate
