FVD ECU tune help
FVD ECU tune help
Finally received the package*today. *I went through the instructions and have a few questions. Asking for help here because Rhonda is on vacation.
1) In the tutorial during the write session, the mygenius tool prompts to 'turn on dashboard' aka ignition. *Does that mean to start the engine of the car while reading or writing to the ecu? Or is it to turn the key to the first position where the accessory radio/lights will turn on? I'm guessing its the latter.
2) battery charger: is it a must to hook the battery up to a charger? my understanding is that i cant start the engine while i am charging. also, could i just hook the battery of the 997tt to another car that's started?
3) I am thinking about just flashing the ECU first and see how I like it. *If the performance is good enough, I will just enjoy the flash. *If I decide to add an exhaust, will they make another flash file for me? or does the software automatically adjust?
*
4)*what's the blue wire for that comes with the mygenius tool? *looks like a wire connected to a pin. doesn't seem like its needed.
thanks in advance.

Also, could i just hook the battery of the 997tt to another car that's started? I had mine hooked up to a charger, and it's probably a good idea since a significant amount of time elapses while all kinds of things are engaged--all on battery juice.
3) i am thinking about just flashing the ecu first and see how i like it. *if the performance is good enough, i will just enjoy the flash. *if i decide to add an exhaust, will they make another flash file for me? Or does the software automatically adjust? Not sure about this. I was careful to tell them about my impending exhaust install so i got the appropriate flash, so i assumed it made a difference. Can't help you here

Not sure, all i can say is you'll know when you need it, if you need it. Iirc, i used the wire that connects under the dash, and i used a usb wire to connect to my laptop.
Thanks in advance.

on #2 I also had my car on a battery tender during the entire process. It only took about 16 mins but I had it connected just in case. I use this
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/95504490054.html
on #3, FVD is great with customer service and would likely write you another file if you upgrade your exhaust. Although FVD's program is adaptive, I will go out on a limb and say you may need a new file as the reduced backpressure and temps may affect aspects of the program. Just specify what cats you upgrade to (i.e., 100 vs. 200 cell cats) and FVD will confirm for you
On #4, not sure what the blue wire is either, I did not need it. OBD II port connection to car and USB to laptop (voila!)
Tip: if you hear the fans turn on and blow during the ECU writing process, that's completely normal!
Enjoy the tune!

AC911turbo, Just got back into town from my vacation and it looks as if Domer911, akunob, gmoney and Duff0000 have taken care of most of your questions already and they are all correct. Thanks guys!
In regards to the exhaust the file that we send you will adapt for a 200 cell cat exhaust but if you are going to purchase a cat bypass or 100 cell exhaust just contact us and we can send you another file for the exhaust.
Quick Tip: If your turbo is a 997.1 you need to select Full Read Out when the Genius tool asks you and select Partial Write when you are writing the software back onto the ECU. The rest is pretty much straight forward and follows the video.
If you have any other questions about the programming you can speak to or email any of our software engineers directly. We don't charge you for programming assistance so feel free to contact them.
