License Plate Light Issue

Gang,

I just noticed my license plate light comes on for a few seconds then goes out. I did a search and nothing came up. Anyone heard of this?

Do you have LED's or bulbs? Does this happen while the car is running or off?

Tail lights are LED's but not sure about the license plate bulbs. Will check.

Btw, where are you going with this?

LED's don't use as much voltage and won't run correctly. Does this happen with the car on or off?

Perhaps the connection is loose? Check the simple things first. Connection of the wire harness and the bulb to the socket

If the bulbs are LED's with the "no error mesage" chip, they tend to burn out over time and can flicker, or go off after a bit. As Jako suggests...check for loose connection first..they are just compression contacts and can get loose. If OK, may just need some new LEDs.

Good luck,
DC

Yep, indeed LED's. I went back to standard bulbs. No more issue.

for LED you need a complete new housing to avoid warning lamps if your going for the whiter light. E-mail info@hoen-usa.com Ive ran their light kit for 5 years, no issues.

Actually, you just need the LED festoon bulbs that are CANBUS - No error 36mm 6418 C5W . And it will be fine. If you want LED.

The festoon canbus bulbs run very hot, in the stock housing heat builds up and can cause a fire. I melted a set of housings running similar bulbs and won't make that mistake again.

Good info gmoney, and certainly something to watch for. I have been using them for a few years now with no issues. I typically buy the aluminum ones with the heat sink built in to dissipate any excess heat. Fingers crossed that I do not have a fire! Had not heard of them melting like that. I bet that did not make you happy.

luckily cheap part, same part number as the VW Golf. Easy to remove and verify if the plastic is warping. if not by know your good to go. I tried some with the long aluminum top but they would not fit, not enough clearance.
