Thinking of trading my 997.1 tt ruf 550 for 360.

hey guys , thinking about making an even swap.

my car, 2008 997.1 tt , with ruf 550 installed. 60k miles. tip. highly optioned? ( msrp 155k) .

trade car. 2001 360 spyder. 18k miles. stock.

from what i see in pics and description, both cars are drivers cars rather than garage queens. I say this bc mine has higher miles, his has decent miles but some curb rash, chips , etc .

have owned 20+ porsche , this would be my first ferrari. this would just be a toy purchase. i have other cars to drive daily.

what are your thoughts? i know , since i am on a porsche forum that many would probably say keep the porsche, but i figure many of you appreciate all sports cars and probably have owned ferraris as well. thanks.

Is it an F1 transmission box, or a MT? My friend has one. Beautiful looking car with an MT. MT are harder to come by and well sought after. Reliability is better with the MT per my friend. I would jump on an MT 360, if that's what you are facing with.

It's a Ferrari....I love my Porsche but...its a Ferrari.

You seem to be losing on the trade a little with the rug package though.

its the f1 tranny

Sorry i failed to mention that in the first post. i know the f1 tranny and the tiptronic tranny aren't the first choice for many. but i'm an old guy (46) .

and too lazy to shift anymore.

great point that its a ferrari. but it is still a 14 year old ferrari vs. a fairly bulletproof 911. performance wise, i think the 911 would dust the ferrari as well. the fact that its a ferrari vs a porsche is the only good thing the ferrari has going for it. a mondial is also a ferrari, but i dont think anyone in their right mind would trade a tt for that. no offense to any mondial owners.

anyone here own both?

My favorite car when I first got to live in mainland Europe 12 years back was an F360.

I was staying at a fancy schmancy place in Reims - Champagne area when a red F360 rolled up... I almost had a 'gasm.... the very nice German owner saw me admiring it and took me for a 90 minutes spin up towards the border region... I was sold.

IMHO the best looking car Ferrari has ever made.

I bought one in cahoots with a mate and it became a nightmare... the belt driven cars seem to give up the ghost if you put any sort of thump into them. We ditched it within 3 months and I got a boring old E34 BMW V8 which I loved.

We had a manual F360 car... best looking car ever not named E Type Series 1 roadster IMHO

but

just carefully and I MEAN very carefully check the maintenance records.... cause when you need to do the 30k mile service it is a $10,000 job plus plus. (or it used to be anyway).

I should add when I bought my TTS last year we looked at F360's again for similar prices (a little more than $65k) and my little voice said just get the Porker... glad I did.. the difference in speed and performance is insane

whoa, 10k service? i'm no stranger to high maintanance costs. owned many amg's, p cars, and the most expensive to maintain- carver 360 mariner. but 10k with nothing broken? what do they do for the 10k?

The problem is when they take the engine out they say to you

Well you may as well do this, may as well do that, may as well blow me for all the frickin $$$$ F dealers charge... it really is insane

Check and see what the F430 goes for as they are much better with the chain drive as far as maintenance costs $$$$$

I own a 360 Modena and have owned Porsches for 20+ years. The Porsches are bulletproof, the 360's will need care from time to time. Things break. If you go in knowing this, you'll have an enjoyable experience.Once a year fluid change: $1200-1500
Every three years a belt change (well and fluids) $4-5000
Ferrari club membership gets you 10%discound for parts at dealers
Like porsche, parts can be (are) expensiveNo need to take the engine out for routine maintenance. That was the 355 and earlier...

Having said that, I've thoroughly enjoy owning the 360. It's an exotic and you have to get use to people pulling up next to you to take pictures. It's the way it is.
It handles very well, has 400hp and looks wonderful.

As mentioned, get a PPI done by someone who knows ferrari's, they made lots of 360's so there are a lot of them out there.

F1 or manual. I've only ever had manual Porsches. I love the F1. Fun to drive.

Go to YouTube and search for 5th gear ferrari 360. Lots of 360 vids but look at that one.

Ferrarichat.com/model specific discussions/360/430. Top of the page has a buyers guide with lots of tops for buying one.

I'm a multi-time Porsche owner that also considered a 360 for similar money. Bob is correct on several points. Easily one of the most beautiful Ferraris made, much prettier than the 430 that followed, but the maintenance is far above $ for the 997 Turbo, and the belt issues that Bob mentions -- corrected in the 430 -- are one to be aware of. Perhaps grab a copy of Forza magazine and search the ads for shops that post their price for that service. Forza also ran a buyer's guide on the 360 about 2 years ago, if memory serves. Good luck with the soul-searching choice. For me, bulletproof reliability by comparison, fit/finish and the speed were what kept me in the family.

OP, while fcars might cost a bit more than Porsche to keep on the road, imo its not that much more. I have owned a handful of 360's including a couple of Stradales and they are beautiful cars. From my experience, its the sound that really sets Ferrari's apart. Its very intoxicating and hard to not be thrilled by it.
I love TT's as well and they are more practical, faster and just as thrilling. You get a look here and there but you won't have people chasing you around to get a pic like in the Ferrari.
I would say, go for it, enjoy the experience and if its not for you, sell it and move on.

Wow - not trying to rain on your parade but I remember the 360 being seriously underpowered and was in every way inferior to the 997. I would even say its in every way inferior to the 996. All you are getting is the name, and gotta say, the 360 looks very dated now. GL with your choice.

Sorry to say, but I second the above opinion.

If you were talking about a 430 it would still be a maybe, as once you even flash a 997T you are putting serious lengths on a 430 and also for many other reasons....

At the end of the day it is what excites you and makes the "experience" come together for you.....but a 360!!....Sorry I know I just countered what I just wrote , but a 360 vs 997T??

Let me try again, At the end of the day it is what excites you and makes the "experience" come together for you!
