Paddle vs thumb shift

I am looking to get back into a Porsche, (last had a 997-1 GT3), just sold my 2013 GT-R it was boring. I have a F430 with paddle shift, looking at a 997-2 TT, I love the paddle shift on the 430, for those that have used both thumb and paddle which do you like best? Was it tough going from one to the other? Does the 997-2TT offer a steering wheel with paddles? Thanks!

i have used both. I like the paddle shift better. I soft of get why they did the thumb shift, you can change gears with the side of your hand.

Thanks for replys, so the Porshe option is the sport steering wheel, I appreciate the info, I'll simply look for that in my search. Best.

I have the paddle shifts on my 911.2TT and the thumb shifts on my958 Cayenne Turbo. The paddles are 10x better in my opinion. Left side downshifts, right side upshifts. Its just very intuitive.

With the thumb shifts, push up for upshift and push back for downshift. It seems like I always have to think before I use them to make sure I am doing it correctly.

Thanks, that's what I was told verbally yesterday, he made the same comment that he has to think with the thumb shifter. I am definitely going with the paddles.

Left vs right is harder if they are connected to the wheel.

thumbs are not as cool but way easier. You always rock the thumb forward or down never changes due to the wheel being turned.

If you go with paddle shifters, I believe you cannot get the multi-function steering wheel. I have the thumb shifters and find them very easy to use. Unlike the paddle shifters, you can up shift and down shift with the same hand on the wheel. I use the multi-functions all the time compared to the occasional use of the shifters. I suggest you to test drive both and then decide.

+1
Is more about getting use to it, I got thumb shift n love it. Is way better than my F12 M6 which u can only upshift with right n downshift with left paddle. Is very individual to see which one u like most.

Like others have said, the paddle shift steering wheel looks spot-on. I enjoy driving with it. But I will admit, when they give me a Cayenne loaner from the dealer when its in for service, I am spoiled by the multifunction wheel. Then I get back into the Turbo S and miss it badly. The best solution is in the Macan Turbo that I test drove a few months ago; paddle shift wheel and multifunction controls!
