Lets Talk Niggles and Solutions

I don't have many but figured I'd air them and see if you guys have fixes and you do the same...

1) I HATE how my drivers rug moves around, slides forward and therefore curves up at the upper left. Then when the clutch goes down it gets on the pedal. I am desperately looking for heavy duty, quality and even cushy expensive rugs that are heavy enough to just lay flat and not get that curved shape.

2) I know its a hardcore sportscar - well mine is anyway with coil overs and 20" wheels. But I hate rattles in a quality car. Mine has none except one. I think its the big flat thing behind the rear seats. I assume over big bumps it chatters or moves somehow.

Anyone else experience these and what did you do to fix them?

if you have factory porsche mats there should be clips that attach to the front seat mounts and the mats clip onto them keeping them from sliding forward.

I hated the mats moving too. I order Loydd's off eBay, they come with these clips that mount to the seat track and they never slide. Well worth the $150, plus the look good with "turbo" embroidered on them.

Nice thread.

Posted this a little earlier today in my thread about my new 997TT:

The 996TT has the ability to adjust both the middle and lower digital readout in the instrument cluster (eg. boost pressure, miles till empty). However the 997TT only the top readout in the instrument cluster is adjustable, the bottom (smaller) readout is fixed on MPG and I can't find the option to change it. I'm surprised that the 996 with its aged electronics has a more flexible digital readout. Have I missed something here to adjust the lower/smaller digital readout?

No issue with my pads, they have valcro spots to attach.

My main peeves...

1) The drivers rear-side window has a little squeak coming from it. It sounds like a bird chirp, and it's very sporadic. SOLUTION: I bought silicon lube spray, and sprayed all inside the edge, right around. It's worked for a year, but after the rainy winter season, I heard it the other day coming back.

2) There is another little rattle inside the passenger door. and this one sounds like a bee buzzing. Again, it's sporadic. I looked at it before and it's a plastic clip that's partly broken off and sometimes from road vibrations it buzzes. I yet haven't had a chance to get in there to fix it.

3) My car is low, really low. Once I made the mistake of having it valeted... shortly after the external temperature was showing 30 to 45+ Deg C... in Canadian Winters. Turns out the valet must have bottomed out which put a crack in the area where the sensor sits. The sensor fell out and currently's behind the radiator... nice and snug. Another item to fix on the agenda.

...those are my Birds & Bees on heat!

Post some pics of the clips mounted once you get them. I need to do something to stop that, and curious how this will work once you install.

My OEM mat moves around all the time as well. It is always in the way of the clutch just like the OP's.

Another niggle, I'm getting some corrosion quite visible on the wheel lugs for the rear wheels? Is this normal, and is there a fix (apart from replacing)?

yes it is normal. I cleaned mine up and painted them black - it cost about 5 bucks, looks great (for now) and allows me to maintain the wheel locks - i am sure they will chip over time, but i'll just do it again if that happens it doesn't take that much time.

My factory rugs never move and I drive my car REALLY hard. Also, are you talking about the Bose subwoofer? If so you might want to remove it and check it to see if something inside got lose. The instructions can be found here:

Agree on the floor mats - I've had my '09 for a year now and the mats have never budged while driving. My guess is they are not attached completely or broken.

My car had a mildly irritating interior rattle or two and they seem to be gone as a nice side-effect of installing a Numeric shifter a few weekends ago. Mysteriously there were two screws in the center console that seemed to be missing from the factory (or PO) so I added those and made sure the others were snugged but not overtightened.

I also deleted the rear seats a while back which saves a little weight, cleans up the interior a bit and removes a few more things that could potentially rattle.

My 2008 TT is my 3rd Porsche turbo, and I love it, but my main complaint is with the PCM which is certainly not intuitive ( at least not for me ). Seems so strange that the manual for the PCM is thicker than the owner's manual.

I'm not sure if they will have the color you need, but I recently order 2 sets in cocoa for my car. They came with new hard Velcro mounts for the floor which actually screw down into the carpet and the mats then connect to them.

no auto headlights seems kind of ridiculous.

Going to try to grab the audi switch and try that.

Mine:

On the 2009 PCM - changing stations with the steering wheel buttons is a bit annoying and the fact that you can't change songs on your iPod with the steering wheel is also annoying.

Agree with the above about the non automatic lights - my 06 IS 250 has that!

I have the mat issue as well and it drives me crazy, but i will be fixing that soon. Mine only has one of the velcro pieces in the carpet and the velcro on the mat is folded underneath, so it doesn't hold it well.

I agree with the floor mat problem. The first day I had the car I realized this was a problem. There were clips in the glove box to hold them in place, but there were no directions and I could figure out how to clip them on.

So, my solution was to, glue Velcro to the bottom of the floor mats and purchase the little screw in the carpet Velcro disks and now the mats stay exactly where they should.
