How to kill your backordered Michelin PSS tire the dumbest way possible

I took the car out Friday to toodle around and get some datalogs before Runway Rivalry this weekend in DFW. It went about 10lbs low while I was driving and surprised me. I pulled over and filled it back up to 44. After leaving the car sit for an hour it was back down to 39. Then a friend had called and needed a ride to his get his car, I picked him up and was watching it very close. It held there just fine so I didn't go straight to the tire shop. I assumed I had picked up a nail or something.

I drop him off, and the tire goes completely flat in about 30 seconds while I was on the freeway. I just watched it go to zero on the dash and was completely helpless. Ended up driving on it a few feet to get safely off the roadway and munched the tire.

The PSS in 305/30/19 is back ordered, Tire Rack told me today it would probably be about 30 days before they saw any. My tires maybe had 1500 miles on them so I'm pretty bummed about this given the lack of availability of a replacement.

I've been looking for a used one to put on there, seems like the simplest option. I need the car weekend after next for Texas Invitational so I need to resolve it before the PSS will be available again.

Any recommendations on other options? I had the RE50A before the Michelins and in comparison I hated them. My car does make enough power to spin the rears even in 3rd gear so dry traction is very important to me. The Porsche dealer here does have a set of PS2 N2 spec but they want nearly $600/tire.

You are probably hosed with regard to the MPSS. I'm not sure I would believe the 30 day estimate as they've been in short/no supply for at least several months so far.

See my recent thread on the same topic -

Thanks for the thread link. I have a few possibilities in getting some lightly used/takeoffs to hold me over, I think that's about the best I can do for now.

Hate to say this but, I slightly wore the outter edge of my MSS and put NT01 on my car. With your application, you could have used them all day!

Maybe I should call them and see if they still have them. Let me know.

What's your take on the NT01? That was something I was looking at.

"Loud!" Great at the track though. I ran my best times at the "road Track" with these while not pushing the car.

(I actually had to consult with a friend that runs them religiously, on the loudness. I was starting to think my front dif. lost its firmness.)

Changed to actual street tires and all corrected.

Tires hold very well, meanwhile, giving you excellent feedback. I thought this tire setup would be a give you an "all in situation" but, Once heated, they truly give great driver feedback. They don't give you the "lose everything" in the corners allowing me to drive them with the safety of a street tire at the track.

I tend to slip the rear a little and this tire does that with the proper sway bar setting.

I actually drove them home in the rain. Not great but, I got the car home.

Now that we can get them in a stock rim size, why not at the track?

Daily driver, forget it!!

Wow sorry to hear rix. Timing couldn't be worse. How about getting a set of R888s? You could run them until your PSS arrives and then store them for the next event. They hook better than any other street legal tire period. I have both PSS and R888's and the difference in straight line/off-the-line traction is very significant particularly for elevated power levels.

yeah the MPSS struggle is strong. call around some smaller retailers, some do have stock of them. i was able to source a 325/30/19 in about a week and tire rack was backordered for a month.

Can the R888 be driven in the rain and cold around 30-40 degrees without cracking? Betim in a video with Adam carola or whatever his last name is said for that guy's car that has the vorsteiner kit, they put r888 because it can be driven in the rain and cold.

I run the r888 on several different rwd cars and absolutely love them. A little loud but they absolutely hook. Mid 550 rwhp can dead hook in 2nd once warm. I Run them in the rain without hesitation as they do very well if common sense is applied. Driven in 30 degree temps with no problems (other than a decrease in traction full throttle) Not sure about weight compared to mpss.

Just has this issue with a bolt. Porsche dealer has the tire and with tax its just north of 5oo. Lucky for me my wheel and tire insurance covers the tire.

R888s are a good option to consider as well...
