Excuse me if this is a noobie type question. My car is a 2007 turbo with
FVD tune
FVD sound exhaust
IPD plenum
GT3 throttle body
I live in FL and primarily drive the car on weekends with no track duty planned. I do no intend on doing and other power mods maybe a Y-pipe. I think the car is plenty fast for my abilities and I've never really felt any kind of power reduction even after long drives in the summer. I have two questions
1. Will I even detect any change in the car if I upgrade intetcoolers (is it necessary)
2. Is it possible to install gt2rs ic without any cutting, filing, drilling or zip tying. Or is there another kit that can be installed without having to do any cutting. Having to cut on the car is an absolute deal breaker for me,
Can someone knowledgeable than me please give me some advice.
It was necessary on my .1 when I really noticed it was when I did the wannagofast 1/2 shoot out, it was around 90 out and very humid here in Chicago. The car kept feeling like it was losing a lot of power. Well fast forward, two weeks after the shootout I took my car to AMS, when I had the car Dyno tuned and they were able to do it due to the same problem on the dyno, I was losing 50 whp on the upper RPM band. They suggested I do IC's, which I did and now there's no issues at all. If I remember correctly, I knocked off .4 & picked up 6 MPH at the drag strip. I went with the AWE IC's and I know there was some modifications they had to do on the plastic shrouds that hold them in. But If I do sell the car, they can't be that expensive for them. I hope that helps.
Thanks for the info. What mods have done on your car? I also seem to remember another member saying that he didn't want any cutting to install his intercoolers and he purchased all new ducting and hoses is this correct?
Almost nothing, there's a small lip on the intercooler shroud that has to be flattened out, but it takes 5 minutes to do both sides with a simple Dremel tool.

Is this what you run on your car? So your saying the gt2rs ic itself is slightly ground with no modification to the car otherwise

Check my post here, complete with a DIY and photos. All you need to know to do a GT2 IC upgrade. You slightly trim the plastic air guide...No changes to the IC required. I also included how to make a pressure tester to be sure no leaks before you button it all back up
Yes all of the intercoolers or at least 3.5" so there's slight trimming that needs to be done. When you go larger than that there's a little more trimming but still none of it is too intrusive in my opinion. There are several great options at different levels. To answer your question you will definitely feel the car improve as far as being a little stronger and gaining a little power. Lower intake air temperatures allow the car to run stronger as well as higher flow through these larger intercourse. The biggest difference you will probably feel is more consistency. I'm sure you notice that in the evenings when it's cooler the car is quicker.
Feel free to give me a call for more details or if I can help you out. It doesn't have to be extremely costly or intrusive.
Thanks rock88 I had seen your excellent write up earlier, and it lead me to a question like turbofever can I purchase and install a 2rs shroud and avoid any cutting, drilling or zip tying even if it adds to the price is there a way to do this as a straight bolt-on mod with the purchase of new hoses, air guides etc. sorry if I'm being redundant

This was detailed on another thread either here or on rennlist. I thought about going this route as well until I priced out the parts needed.. I don't recall exactly but it was enough for me to just make the minor mods as described.
I also looked into the used route.. I called LA dismantler in CA and they wanted to sell the cooler & all its ducting as a unit.. I already had my coolers so it didn't make sense for me..
You can find these cheaper, or used, but at MSRP you are looking at : $ 1328.84 + Shipping and/or tax.

despite it all being hidden I would rather not use foam tape etc
Do what makes you happy, and what you are comfortable with...I just offered an option and the way I achieved it. And BTW..When you pull apart the OEM pieces...guess what...Foam tape..uh oh
