I'm about to change the oil for the first time on my 2008 tt. I have heard that you don't drain the turbo chargers on a 997.1tt like you do on a 996tt. I see a bolt next to the turbo oil line that will probably drain oil from the turbo chargers.
Can anyone please clear this up for me? Thanks in advance.

I only do the tank and crankcase. I'm sure you've read by now that it comes out of the tank pretty quick so be ready.
Cheers
I did the oil change on my 997TT about 2 weeks ago, and didn't catch the comment about how much oil comes out, and how fast, when you pull the drain plugs, so just be ready for it. I have a lift, with the right equipment, plenty of wrench time, and it still made a mess.
The crankcase drains normally..But as others have mentioned the tank is narrow and tall...I would liken it to a fire hose...NO kidding! It does not drain out...It explodes out.
I lay a rubber backed industrial black floor mat under the car, and use a deep pan if you have one (with a lip around the edge if possible)... Also get the pan as close to the plug as you can, to minimize the splash that will occur.
Lastly....Do not forget to counter torque the drain plug on the tank...it is thin aluminum and you do no want to twist that off...
And no draining required on the turbo on 997 TT...
if the turbo oil tanks mount to the turbos like the 996 turbos do then its advisable to drain them. theres a bolt inside the tank that attaches it to the turbo. if the drain plug seizes in the tank then you can't remove the tank from the turbo. removing and reinstalling the drain plug with new crush washer will prevent this from happening
Please note that the 996 Turbocharger and the 997 VTG Turbocharger are different. There is no need to drain the oil reservoir in the 997 application. In fact, Porsche removed the drain plug from the bottom of the reservoir in the 997 application.

+1 When I did mine I bought the gaskets and then found out there was no drain in the turbos on the 997.1
