2008 911 Turbo - 9 Over Revs at Range 4

Hello,

I'm looking at a 2008 911 Turbo Cab, however I just found out it has 9 Over Revs at Range 4. With this is being past warranty car, is this still a big deal?

I was told never to buy a 911 with over revs beyond 3.

Car seems priced well ($71k @ 31k miles), however the inspection came back with it needing new tires as well.

It had - (Operating Hours Counter)
4794 at Level 1 (1107.1 h)
822 at Level 2
(1107.1 h)
152 at Level 3
(1106.2 h)
9 at Level 4
(1106.2 h)

Total Operating Hours - 1110.20

Thoughts?

It hit the range 4s within the last few days which means someone was beating on it during a test drive or right before they traded it.

With the over revs, tires and mileage I think it is priced high and you can find a better one for the money unless it has exactly the options you want.

Thanks, 1 owner, Black/Black, manual cab is tough to find. Plenty with tan interior. Most are priced well above this (as far as I'm seeing on cars.com).

I would not be too concerned about those over-revs at all. I do think you can get it cheaper and can use the over-revs as a negotiation point, and would definitely use the new tires needed as a bargaining point to get the price down.

New tires are like a $100 bucks on these cars

Good luck!

Stop worrying and buy the car already !

Joking aside , only 9 on 4 is really something to disregard.
But I too would use it to get something of the price or new tires.

Over revs are so overrated and people are missing out on perfect cars just for a stupid report which usually means nothing.

Of course I was..about the tires. HaHa,,, I really would not worry about those few over-revs in the ranges though About .025 seconds in range 4.

997 Turbo RPM range

1 > 6800 and < 7000 normal
2 > 7000 and < 7200 normal
3 > 7200 and < 7400
4 > 7400 and < 7900
5 > 7900 and < 9000
6 > 9000

People make too much out of these over revs. For the most part you can zing the hell out of these motors without issues. 9 ignitions in range 4 equals to 3 revolutions of the crankshaft beyond 7400. Range 1-4, no sweat... Point me to some cases of these engines blowing up due to over revs..

Also agree that it's not a big deal.. The only consideration would be resale where some may care about it. Outside of selling privately (which makes it more of a personal opinion), I'm not sure what the policy is for dealerships, but I do know that Porsche won't CPO a car that has anything in range 3+. Also, not sure about 3rd party extended warranty policies.

If it's the car you want, I say go for it, but use all this as ammo to bring the price down a bit.

Good luck!
