Hi, please post install and wiring pics when done, its my next project.
To answer your Q: Remove the plastic panels and find the opening that takes you to the fenderwells, from there you go under the car then out near the intercoolers then into the engine bay .. Hope that helps
I ran the meth tank on the drivers side in trunk. The pump hose comes out the back of the enclosed tank and into the hole where the factory spare air tank sits. I drilled a small hole and used a rubber grommet to get those hose under the car. Looks beautiful as there is not a single wire/hose visible in the trunk and takes the most direct path. For the gauge, I mounted it in the sport chronos pod and extended the gauge wire 12 ft with cat 5e through the dash and behind the fuse panel, through the floor under the fuse panel to meet up with the methanol line and back in the same wire loom to the engine area. Mines a cabriolet so I went from the engine Bay into the roof compartment from there.
I was meaning to just have a look at whats in the box yesterday and got carried away without proper research lol.
My difficulty is also running the wires into the cabin and then running the wires out into the engine bay from where the ecu is.
I managed to find a really useful thread regarding installing a radar. With use of the pictures and some imagination I'm going to have another go tonight. I'm a lot more confident!
Right, so running the cable last night was easy, went through the grommet opposite the steering wheel and the wired dropped straight into the footwell. I then removed the fuse box cover, ran it round the back, lifted the piece that had the boot and bonnet release, ran the wire through there, then through the quarter to the ecu.
The meth pipe, i ran into the wing, down then through a pipe tray that i think may carry the fuel lines, i then ran it over the wheel arch and its sitting by the intercooler now. I will run it to the engine bay when my new coolers arrive.
I did order a new gauge cable as the supplied is not long enough, so waiting for that too.
Im going to attempt running the wires from the ecu to the engine bay tonight.
I made a bracket for the tank etc, its not that great, anyone have any idea, or pointers on fixing points? as i know the fuel tank is behind that wall.
Right, So i had some spare time this weekend to carry on with the install.
I had to remove the rear bumper so i thought id install the 997.2 coolers at the same time.
First things first, download and print The Rocks great guide!
Jacked up the car and removed everything
Swapped the coolers
Reinstall..
Install the Aquamist gauge
The next step is probably the one i was most worried about... Drilling and Tapping the Y pipe.. I used an 8.5mm drill bit for the initial hole, then a 1/8npt tap and took my time. Y pipe is actually plastic...
Check out those threads!
Some lock tight and they went in without mishap...
Ive installed the FAV by the boot lock and all i have to do now is wire it all to the ECU.
I found this thread to be the most informative with running cables through the car.
I would say, so far, installing this kit is not difficult, just time-consuming and make sure you have all the tools and have read the guides mentioned above.
Just a heads up with the M5
According to their site they warn against using the new M5 -
Can M3 or M5 be used with a methanol injection kit?
I'd use regular methanol like VP's M1 for the injection. This is what I personally use. All you are using the injection for is to cool the air charge. This is how you get more power, because you can add more timing or boost with a cooler charge. M3 has a hydrocarbon in it and won't pull the heat like M1. M5 has a hydrocarbon and a combustion additive. I would definitely not use this. It could have bad results by combusting in the air inlet tube between the turbo and the throttle body. M1 is your best choice.
We'd suggest staying away from M5 unless its going through your fuel tank. Its a blend with nitroparaffins (i.e. nitromethane).
M1 is what you want but Home Depot and such hardware stores sell Methyl Hydrate which is what is most commonly referred to as methanol and it is 99.9% pure as well. You'll find it in the paint section.
We've got one across the street where we "fill up" from
