Phoenix / Glendale Porsche Shop Recommendation Needed

My son has a new-to-him 2002 911 with about 60k miles on it. He needs to have his IMS bearing replaced (it hasn't been done yet.....) and a new clutch installed. He took it to a local Porsche mechanic that told him that as long as the car is "properly maintained" there isn't any reason to worry about or replace the IMS bearing. He quoted him +-$6k to replace the bearing and the clutch.

I told him that based on EVERYTHING that I've read the IMS bearing on his car is a ticking time bomb, and that there was absolutely no way that he could "properly maintain" the IMS bearing, or the engine, where that wouldn't be a potential / very likely serious issue.

Any recommendations on a GOOD Porsche shop in the Glendale / Phoenix area where he could go?

Thanks!

We'd be happy to take a look at the car and give him the skinny on the IMS/RMS job. $6k is quite high for a clutch/IMS/RMS job, a quick napkin estimate shows we'd be about half that depending on if it needs a flywheel or not. Have him get in touch or swing by and we can take a look at the car and go over options.

Sam

I'm not sure. I'll ask. No, it's not a turbo. Just a normal 911 manual cab.

Turbo's and GT3's did not suffer from the IMS/RMS problems.

yes, I knew that mezger had no ims issue, was making sure OP did. Which is why I was wondering it being a 996 and non turbo and posting in this area.

Making sure he wasn't really be sent down the river......
