997.1 known rattles...

Hi guys....any known rattles in the cabin out there? I have a weird one when the bass hits sometimes. It almost sounds like a loose rear window, but I can't pinpoint it. Just looking to see if anyone has fixed any in their car in the past.

I had a rear window "creak" that was pretty annoying anytime the frame would flex (just about any bump), even just a tiny bit. I thought it was coming from somewhere on behind the interior rear panel (near the rear speaker) but when I had things off and coudn't find anything obvious, I went outside and started to push on the window at different points. I was able to replicate the noise so I simply took some foam weatherstripping (the cylindrical stuff) and wedged it against the glass (on the inside, under the rubber molding) and it fixed things.

PS -- others here have mentioned a "loose rear window" as a source of noise. The 911 rear windows are glued in and if you want to remove and reseat, it typically involves breakage of the glass. So, try what I mentioned. You don't even need to remove the rear interior panel -- just pull up the rubber weatherstripping and wedge the foam in there.

Quadcammer is infamous around these parts
I believe the 997 side windows are attached with some nuts, and some people have had success tightening these.

I have a really annoying plastic clicking noise from the seat belt adjuster.

I had one in the center console/shifter area. The big plastic console trim piece (shifter/between seats) was not screwed-in securely at all points. Fixed as a side bonus when I installed my shifter.

Checked the side windows and low and behold I can move them. I also found what seems to be dried up soap residue on the front corner edges of the side windows....on both sides!!! I don't understand how Porsche slacked with this? Is this a design flaw?

should I just tighten bolts or replace those inner rubber seals as well?

You can pull the seals (just pull them up and follow around, paying attention to how you will reinstall) then use a watering can or low pressure hose on the outside of the glass to ensure there is no leaking. Like I mentioned above, you can the use a bit of thin foam backer rod (from lowes/Home Depot) to push the side glass outwards and keep things taut.

The "soap residue" issue you mention us weird, but surely you noticed this staining before?

Yeah I am going to tackle this weekend. The soap residue has to be bubbles that seeped in and dried up. I use a foam cannon to wash the car and my soap is blue just like the residue. This is the first time I see this residue, but I am assuming it is because I just washed the car this past Sunday and used the foam gun for the first time. I am going to spray it this weekend and see if I can see the fresh bubbles come into the car real time.

I have also been searching the forums....a lot of people with 997 non turbos have had various problems with these rear quarter windows. One guy even had his glass detach from the mounting points and fall off the car.

I am just happy the bass in my new deep house music addiction helped me find this problem. Good mix below for those interested in rattle testing music
