EFR7163 Porsche Turbo Kit experience (997.1)

Hi guys i want to share my experience in the 7163turbo i got for a friend basiclly my partner so its like something i wanted to give my heart and soul to make it happen and run well from sillyrabbit based on the suggestion of a member here who i was shocked yesterday told me doesn't do sales for them anymore..

Kindly excuse my english since its not my first language, i want to make this as short as possible starting with the good stuff then the bad..

The car is a 997.1 stock motor and stock tip for now i choose the 10 to 12psi meduim spring which maxes out at 20psi to 22psi or so now at 18psi the car pulls hard with a base map timing is extremely low for now, it hits full boost at 4200rpm approx all the way to end, i cancelled the diverter valves that came with the turbos and used to 2 tials welded on the intercoolers and a manual boost controller ..

I am very happy with the turbo as far as performance and looking forward to finish the tune at 21psi or so and meth and adjust the map more, maybe the trans will slip till i reach there but till now everything is good and logs is excellent i can share it also for those intersted.

The downside of this deal is i never get replied to and if i get replied its always after so much time, in the beginning before paying everything looked perfect fast communication and answers i even wanted to buy more than 1 kit but unfortunately had a huge delay in receiving the parts, i ordered lines which came missing and weeks later arrived..

I bought this kit since it says its bolt on and honeslty its not or the part that i received had a problem not sure, because the vendor said he shipped out them directly from company to save time due to the delay so had no idea what parts shipped or how they came anyway

Exhaust manifold were hitting the wastegates rod needed (modification) the way the Turbo hanged needed (modification, the exhaust temp sensor needed (modification) to be installed, the turbo housing with the current exhaust needed (modification) the driver side turbo is too close to the tire and heat shield needs a tire spacer to be installed safely .

I know that all or most kits need alot of work to fit cars and i was ready for some work, but with no support at all , no communication and loads of work i was alone but thankfully i made it with the help of others..

Ontop of all the downside of this experience if someone can get this turbo to be bolted on as advertised and have support all the way, i adivse everyone to go for it.

But my experience was not as i wanted and till this day i try to communicate with the vendor of this turbo abt if its possible to have more kits but without all the headache i was in and delay and have some sort of support, i am happy to get more turbos for other friends but unfortunately no reply by email, phone, on the site msg and finally in the forum yesterday as well as if they just blocked me for some reason..

I didnt write this to start a war its just my experience maybe i am an unlucky person who had a bad tune expreince long time ago and shared it and now this not sure but this is what happened and i wish everyone gets a better experience.

Some companies hate ppl to email them alot (nag) but i feel when i paid for something and the company is weeks in delay and never replies the customer has the right to keep on emailing (nag) till he gets what he paid for or refund..

I dislike sharing this because many who had good experience will not believe me or something but again i am sharing because i feel it will help others from gettin a better experience and understand more about wht a bolt on kit means..

I have other vids of install if anyone intersted i can email them..

Honestly I wish everyone was like samboo and 911tuning with their parts and reply..

Thank you

Thanks for ur reply ive done my home work and i know it needed work but not to the point it doesnt fit the exhaust housing and doesnt hang right and cant install the tire without spacer and my main point from sharing not abt the just hard install but delay and no support and parts come little by little..

We installed it for now till we get all the parts we have planned for later motor and trans..

Cheerz

Again ive installed other kits which were easier and had full support , abt the motor and trans my partner wanted to push his motor and test it to see where he can go till his new motor, trans, parts arrive , its his decision to take it to the higher level as level, everyone is free to do wht they want so he choose to put everything together till the parts arrive..

My point again is the frustration and delay i had thats all
I know their are rules to follow a b c in the modifying world but some ppl wana experience each level first and if something breaks then its his responsibility but atleast he followed what he wanted, all parts such as motor and stuff will be installed next season or earlier if something goes wrong so quick..

So in the end of the day my goal is from sharing is that i got parts from a vendor that was perfect before payment but after payment and when it was install time and delay in parts and errors in the parts no one replies ever, that has nothing to do with A b c of modifying cars you are referring to and switching the subject abt to wht everyone else does, to each his own , its his money and his car he just wanted someone to sell him a part and support it after the sale takes place that's the bad experience in this not to do wht everyone else does.

I have the same kit! It wasn't a straight forward install by any means. However and as others have said, if you're not using VTG's you need to make some modifications to fit these turbos in comfortably.

Has your mechanic turned the turbine so it doesn't hit the wheel liner and wheel?

Also what injectors and tune are you using?

Provided you don't run crazy boost, your motor should last without internals.

Yes everything is installed perfectly but the issue i had is from delay in parts ,slow to no reply now and missing partd and needed just some assistance thats all but figured it all out alone.. yes we will run on stock internals
On meduim boost and timing for now just for fun then when parts arrive go all insane...

I guess I had a better experience. I switched from VTG turbos and didn't have any issues at all with fitment. I didn't have to run spacers, I didn't have clearance issues with the housings or any of the like. To say that all non VTG turbo upgrades require those modifications or headaches I think is a blanket statement that just isn't true.

Now I could have misunderstood some of what was said, but my A3076 kit only needed the following modifications: Support brackets, oil/water line fittings (you can even re-use the stock oil feed, oil return, and coolant return lines with just fittings and slight bending of the stock metal lines). Lastly, most x-pipe exhausts can just be turned and adjusted to stock location. I did this with my BBI exhaust, no welding/cutting required.

I agree that it does seem some company's are very fast with responses when they want your money, afterwards the support side sometimes is lacking. And you are right that there are some people that reply and are very helpful right away. Sambo and Markski are both very good mentions. I have spoken to both, and they offer support and information all the time no matter if you buy or not. I would also add Todd (at Proto) to that list, he seems to answer the phone every time I call, and is always happy to talk.

No doubt the EFR turbos are a great choice, and I am sure in the end you and your partner will be happy with the car. I appreciate you sharing your experience.

Hi Hindi,

I know Sean is out getting hitched. He should be returning next week. I know there have been some other projects on his list, as well. I am not making excuses for him, but he went dark for the week to spend time with his bride.

back at the install time which matters the most it was 6 weeks of stress, not sleeping etc etc

t i opened the thread abt wht my experience months ago and also shared the good and bad so its not like these threads bashing ppl only, its just what happened in my case unfortunately..

Cut throat business these guys are in give them a break especially if the guy just got married. Unfortunately though it seems there are quite a few reviews like this one popping up more often than not about SRM customer service and lack of instructions or help during install in the past while. You have to think how many never come on here to post a bad experience or good for that matter. Not looking good either way.

I can share anything i feel its necessarily for others to know abt, so relax bro and read my thread even more if it makes you happier and wake up and see that i said the turbos them self are very good and wrote the good things abt the product it self and even mentioned i gave them another chance to buy more if the nightmare doesnt happen again...

Now points you have missed are:

Missing parts
Delay almost 6 weeks after payment
Alot of important stuff that should be mentioned to consumers such as spacers are needed for using srm housing or need alot of tweaking like i did but also very close to the tire which is DANGEROUS!!!

But i didnt mention all the details, maybe this thread will help them being better with customer support and never to let what happened to me happen to anyone else.

the one million point that makes it obvious you didn't read well that this all happened long time ago before he got married, Shall i also mention i paid for the full line kit that never arrived with the turbos, i got half of the lines only and weeks later i got the rest with missing fitting and
guess what!!!
NO REPLY ever, till we did so much tweaking to make it happen since no one replies.

Now would you like that to happen to you?

If you think your honest enough to answer with yes id like that to happen to me when i buy 5000 dollars part plus expecting the goods to be awesome that you discussed to buy alot more, then maybe i am living in a different world than yours..

Case closed

Thats what everyone else does.
Vendor customer service\ communication IS FIRST and got nothing to do with if the op did his homework or not!

I've been there with SRM with 997.1 tt brushless kit setup and they get a D in customer service, delays and wrong parts.
It got nothing to do with last week's Sean absence, its an ongoing ritual.
Few Good experiences doesn't count much when you have a pile of bad ones.
