Best LSD ? (Other than Guard).

Looking for an LSD for a 997.1TT.

What else is good besides Guard?

Will be for a <700 WHP car.

Street fun and perhaps an occasional open track day.

Thanks in advance

Anyone have experience with the OS Super Lock LSD by OS Giken ?

Or Quaife?

I hope you get some reviews of the OS Giken LSD. We have them for MT and PDK.

Im also looking for a diff exactly as you have described. My local race shop is recommending a X-Trac however i cannot find much information on it.

They say the X-Trac will work great for ~650WPH with a lot of street driving and occasion track day.

I just noticed those on Suncoast. I had looked at them before, and nearly ordered one.

Are those clutch type? Or Torsens?

If your car is equipped with an LSD from factory, you can have it rebuilt with Guard internals - the parts are about 1k+labor. Mine is done like this, with 27/40 ramps (from 997 gt3). It is silent, no chatter, even with no lsd additive in the trans gear oil (motul).

My car didn't have that option,. but I would have gladly bought a used one if the parts were available.

Unfortunately, Guard has no parts in inventory, either for stock rebuilds or for their LSD's.

They are a number of months away from having any of their diffs for sale. I had been waiting on one since late last year. We got the wrong one, returned it,.. were told 2 weeks. A month later we were told it would be at least 2 more months. They have no inventory, and their machine is broken. Waiting on a tech to fly in from Japan or something.

We tried to do a Guard diff a year ago also. Was told it would be at least 3 months.

The company was sold a couple years ago. Paul is no longer there.

Just like with many performance parts, you have to plan ahead which can understandably be frustrating. I waited over 6 month for my Guard GT2 Pro chromoly LSD. It was no big deal as I was running their GT3 Club billet LSD already. If I recall their factory is in New Zealand but stock and rebuild kits for their mainstream LSDs and OEM LSDs are generally plentiful Stateside. Matt owns Guard and his service has always been top notch. Can't speak highly enough of him and his products are in a league of their own.

If you are in a time crunch and need a genuine top notch LSD, you can always order a Porsche Motorsport GT3Cup LSD. It's a fantastic unit and those are readily available within one or two weeks. I get all my Porsche Motorsport parts direct from Germany and usually within 2 weeks of ordering.
