997.2TT Smoke on Startup (video)

All,

After a spirited run the previous day, I frequently get white smoke upon startup. I am catless, have a Plenum & Cobb Stage 2. Also rotate between the 100 & 91 octane tune. Is this normal? Video below:

It's common on .1TTs. Not sure about .2s. I don't remember the exact cause but typically letting the car idle for 20-30 seconds before shutting it off prevents it.

It seems a bit excessive. My 996tt smoked like this on startup when I put new turbos on that didn't have check valves in them. I swapped in some check valves and everything was fine. If it isn't burning oil you are fine though.

I have a .2TTS doing the same during cold start after driving it as is should be driven... nothing to worry.
But to be sure check around the inlet pipes and the turbos if there is no oil leaking.
Also check the floor of your parking.

If you see oil sweat there maybe the oil separator finished his duty.
It happened to me after i installed the Y pipe and plenum.
I think its 80$-90$ if im correct.

GT3's usually smoke also with original exhaust.

Thanks all! The video posted was probably the worst example I've seen.
Tried idling for a minute before shutting off after spirited runs.....the symptom has almost gone away completely.

Its normal all boxer motors do that because a little oil stays behind due to pistons sise to side action.. the oil doesn't drain 100% so on start up sometimes it smokes... as mentioned run for 20 seconds before shutting car down..

OP this is common and often related to high oil level. Especially if you see it happening more from passenger-side where the oil separator vents to the turbo inlet. Call me if you'd like I can go over it with you and help out.

If you think this is bad, you should see the startup smoke my boxster sometimes makes after sitting for a week!
