RS 4.0 Light Weight Flywheel and clutch in 997 TT

Has any one used a RS 4.0 clutch /LW fly wheel as an alternative to the Sachs 2.5 clutch?

My Sachs 2.5 is at the end of it's life cycle and looking to replace it and go with a LW Fly wheel. Curious if anyone has experiance with the 4.0RS OEM setup. Apparently it should hold the same amount of power.

Yes, I use that combo on my car. It's lighter than the regular RS flywheel, has more machining done and a smaller contact area .. 8lbs vs 11 IIRC. I'de use the regular RS with the 4.0 clutch.

One thing with these flywheels its much easier to stall the engine under heavy braking, tunning for it will help but it wont solve it 100%. After using both RS I found the lighter one more prone to stalling.

The 4.0 flywheel is the same flywheel as the 964RS LWFW but has more material machined away from it which results in a 30% reduction of friction surface contact area. While theoretically clamping force will remain the same, you will have a 30% greater wear rate of the clutch disc and flywheel. I am running the heavy duty high rpm bolted Sachs Motorsport version of the 4.0 pressure plate along with an OEM clutch disc and a 964RS flywheel. It's a fantastic combo. If you have the appropriate modifications to your tune to take into account the LWFW, stalling is not an issue whatsoever. A LWFW tune is a must on my opinion.

Cheers guys!
Hey PWDRHOUND, you wouldn't have the part numbers handy would you?

997-116-013-91 Clutch Disk
997-116-027-91 Pressure Plate
944-116-080-01 Release Bearing 72mm
964-114-143-31 Starter ring gear
950-116-813-30 Clutch Guide Tube
900-270-055-02 Guide tube screws (2 ea)
997-116-086-90 AS Release Lever
928-102-151-01 Flywheel bolts (9 ea)
931-102-111-00 Pilot Bearing
900-067-103-02 Pressure plate bolts (9 ea)
???? 4.0RS LWFW

... correct?

And will these hold a good 800hp (est) at the crank?
...or should I stick with the AWE Sachs Stage 2.5 PP: 88 3082 999 764 pressure plate ?

.

The Motorsport 487 PP is a beefed up version of the high rpm 4.0 pressure plate. I used to run the 764 and swapped it for the 487. Due to the increased thickness of the 487 plate it can only be used with the 964RS or 4.0 LWFW. Will NOT work with DMFW or aftermarket flywheels. My engine is a built 3.8 track engine and constantly gets revved to 7500-7800 so the stronger pressure plate makes sense. For lower rpm use the 764 is fine but if it was my choice I'd spend the extra $500 or so on the 487 plate. I'm 600whp/675wtq and no issues with it. Not sure what the upper limits are. Make sure you do an easy 300 mile break in on the clutch. Stop and go traffic is best.

Sachs Motorsport 487 clutch pressure plate (88.3082.001.487)*
997GT3RS 4.0 clutch disc (997.116.013.91)*
964 LWFW (964.102.239.31)*
Flywheel bolts 9x (928.102.151.01)*
Pilot bearing (931.102.111.00)*
Throwout bearing (944.116.080.01)*
Guide tube (950.116.813.30)*
Guide tube bolts 2x (999.270.070.01)*
Ring gear (964.114.143.31)*
Pressure plate 8x45mm bolts 9x (900.067.103.01)*

Now onto the slave cylinder /GT2RS conversion.

Would you guys know what parts are needed for that? Figure I should investigate this if I'm down there replacing parts.

I am aware that both BBI and evoms make a kit. Just curious if sourcing OEM GT2RS parts is an option.

Install OEM GT2 parts. It's properly engineered and proven. All the rest is a less than ideal bandaid solution. I steer clear of aftermarket stuff like the plaque..

I'm assuming this revs up quicker compared to simply installing the 4.0 clutch setup on my 3.6 997TT?

Probably slightly quicker as the rotating assemblies are lighter than on a 997TT 3.6

Update on this... I reached out to suncoast and they actually directed me to the EVO Kit, as opposed to going the regular OEM route on the slave conversion.
So that's the route I've taken... only problem is they are short on the helper spring. Apparently it's a hot commodity.

So while I wait, I'm still trying to decide between the RS4.0 OEM kit and the 487 setup above. The main reason is my indy shop highly recommends the 4.0.

With that said, nowhere on the interwebs can I find the max transmittable torque of the 4.0 kit.

Does any one have that info by any chance? The max transmittable torque?

Here's what I'm looking at, as part of the RS4.0 kit:
997 116 027 91 Pressure Plate
997 116 013 91 Clutch Disc
964 102 239 31 Flywheel
