Sales Tax in NV
Sales Tax in NV
Anyone here from NV? I'm trying to sell my '03 M-B SL55 AMG. I have a prospective buyer from Las Vegas who tells me that he wants to buy from a private party since no sales tax is due on such a purchase. According to him, if he were to buy from the consignment lot on which the car now resides, sales tax would be due. Anyone know if this is true?
Got my answer, Google returned this..
Sales Taxes are not collected on private party vehicle sales that occurred on or after January 1, 2006. These "occasional" sales are exempt due to Nevada's implementation of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project
Sales tax is collected on dealer sales of vehicles in Nevada or vehicles recently purchased from an out-of-state dealer for the purpose of Nevada registration

That is basically correct, sales tax is not collected on private party sales as of 1/1/2006, it was before. More info at www.dmvnv.com if you need it.
As an aside, NV has fairly high sales tax now, 7.75% in Las Vegas (Clark Co.), it was only 3% 25 yrs. ago. You may be thinking of Oregon, which has no sales tax.
