Porsche to release Car play equipped radio for older models

See https://techcrunch.com/2020/04/23/porsche-unveils-carplay-equipped-radios-for-vintage-porsches/

I'm hesitant to remove the stock radio in my TTS as I don't want to lose the porsche specific functions. Maybe they will release a updated radio for the 997 series as well...

I always thought it would be cool to come up with a modern single-DIN radio for the 997 and then somehow get the AC controls up next to it to essentially remove the center stack completely from the 997, kind of making it like the air-cooled interior. Probably would just take some ingenuity, money and good fabrication skills.

1.5K.. That's pretty steep... I'd get an exhaust instead and enjoy the NOISE!

I have the Mr 12 volt ebay module in my 997.1 turbo and have great bluetooth streaming and phone calls with all the factory functions. Module cost 112 usd. Dont know what else is needed after this.

Apple car play / Android auto?!

In regards to price, once you factor in a new head unit and optical converter. You are basically at the same price.

Im fine with the 997.1 system but not having BT technology is backwards and annoying.

Anyone tried one of these out? I had to replace my pcm 3.0 as it died. Didn't go aftermarket as I wanted the physical buttons and volume *****. Went with another 3.0. I'd like to know if these new systems allow for the addition of front and rear parking cameras??

I added the Tranzit Blue to my 997.1. Works great. Easy to install. I use mine for playing music. I don't drive and use phone, but it has the phone options as well. The song title shows up on both the PCM and dash.

Wonder if there could be an option for a black headunit for the 997.1, then swap in the HVAC controls from a 997.2 for an interior refresh

well, of course nothing works out the way it's supposed to. My replacement PCM 3.0 has been hit by the sirius xm bug. It is constantly cycling on/off. I've tried all the resets from other forums and so has the dealer. I'm stuck until sirius pushed a fix.
