Cross-shopping a 15+ Vanquish Volante to a McLaren GT

.......Sooooooo......... I'm getting the itch as 2026 approaches......

I haven't test driven either of these two cars yet, but both of these cars have been on my list for a long time. I'm more of comfort/beauty kind of person, and both of these cars seem to hit the mark. I've tested a 570S Spider, which I honestly love, but it felt somewhat hard, and slow - not because it's not a crazy car, but because most of my driving would be around city streets at normal speeds. Paying a bunch of money for a less-than-ideal drive for the "regular" types of comfortable commuting I normally do, just isn't worth it for me.

Coming from an S65 Coupe, which is an absolutely incredible car in every aspect, has anyone cross-shopped (or owned) a 15+ Vanquish Volante with a McLaren GT? Any pros or cons in the comparison?

(Yes, I know that in the end it will all boil down to my own test drives, but I'm curious to know others' thoughts or points of view I may want to consider while searching/test driving)

Vanquish all day. Naturally aspirated V12, way sexier in looks, interior is leagues ahead. It's a no brainer.

I would recommend also trying a 2015-2017 Vantage V12S

I had a 570GT (not 570S or GT) and have looked at the Vanquish (not the Volante). Very different cars. The best thing to do is to get both.

I did try the GT when it came out, but I didn't like it, I preferred the 570GT that I had. You might look at that option. In case you don't know, the 570GT is like the S, but slightly softer, CC brakes are an option, better interior by default, and a glass roof. I did like the Artura, but I'm not going to touch those until they resolve the Cybertire issue.

I came close to buying a Vanquish, but it was during the pandemic and the prices were just too high. In the end I ended up with a 2020 Vantage as the prices started returning to normal. Tough to beat that for value.

So it really depends on what you like and what you want to do with the car.

I'm not a convertible fan, but either way, Vanquish.

IMO, McLaren is a Youtuber's car. Too flashy, and yet somehow still a bit ugly. Vanquish has much better styling, is comfortable around the city, and you won't feel like a ****** driving it.

It has to be your choice that no one can make for you of course.

now to my opinion which only works for me. I’m not a McKaren fan from any metric so in my case I would only have one choice here.

Absolutely beautiful car, definitely one of the coolest ones out there. But, I looked at and test drove a V8 Vantage roadster many years ago. While it was nice, I prefer slightly larger 2+2 style cars. But a 15-17 V12S? Yea, amazing.

Both lol, if only I had the ability to do so. The first mac I really came to love was actually the 570GT. I find that the bodylines of that car are the best out of all three variants of the 570. And I'm always a sucker for liking the ones in the advertisements - the silver 570GT with the red interior and multispoke wheels is the first one where I was blown away; that would be the 570GT I'd get. Ironically, the local dealer had that exact one for sale once but I never went to go check it out. At the same time, I've always thought that the open-air experience of the spider was the "right" way to own this car, so when I found a spider in my favorite volcano orange color, I had to go test drive it at the local dealer. While it was definitely "cool", it was one of those "this isn't $167k used cool".

Ironically, I do find that the 570S is the youtuber entry-level supercar. This is actually one of the turn-offs of the car for me, which is why I see the GT as the more "grown up" car (not that I really care what others think about what I own, but still). And then again, that's the price bracket I'm in, so I can't exactly throw shade either.

When I went to test drive the 570S spider, they had a green GT in the showroom in a dark green color with the tan interior. Definitely a beautiful car. The only thing I dislike about the GT is that at certain angles, that front bumper angle/height.....but only at certain angles. I also dislike how the front headlights and side gills actually make it look like a C8 Corvette. I'd be waiting for the unknowing "nice Corvette" comments while pumping gas [I did have someone ask me once "is that a Corvette" to my gen 2 Viper, so yes it happens]. On a different note, it's nice to see that the GT appears to have better reliability than the 570S, and has newer technology in both the electronics of the car, as well has the 4.0 V8. [Side note - the dealer also had the new Artura, and behind a couple of ropes they had an Elva and a Senna. The two ultimate's were not for sale, and were owned by the same person that needed somewhere to "store them" for a bit. Must be nice...]

Enough rambling...anybody in the Atlanta area have a Vanquish Volante and want to meet just for a walkaround and casual chat?

Just FYI, the Aston dealer here in NJ has a While 2017 Vanquish Volante and the dealer out on Long Island has a Silver 2016. From experience, both of these dealers are good to work with. The Long Island Dealer is also a McLaren dealer, and they have a could of GTs available too. Overall the GTs should be easier to find than a Vanquish.
