As soon as I sell most of them I am picking up a Panasonic TH-65PX600U 65" 1080p plasma. I will also probably get a Pioneer PDP-6070HD.

Why do you keep buying the models that will depreciate the most? The 60"+ models will be half the price they are now in a year. I would stick with the 50" models.

I am a glutton for punishment? No different to guys that buy new cars every 6 months. "Gotta Have It" syndrome. I am just lucky it is a few thousand here and there instead of tens of thousands.

The 5040HD I have has an external media box, which is nice if you are mounting the TV on a wall as all you have to run to the TV is power and the 2 cables from the media box. All connections are done at the media box. The 5050HD/SX has everything built into the TV like most other plasma tv's. Besides that the 5050HD has a cable card slot and the 5040HD doesn't. Beyond that I think they are pretty much identical as far as picture quality.

It's too bad you're not in SoCal. I would buy the Pioneer 50" from you.

Elite TV's?

Michael, how do the below models compare to the Elite ones on the pioneerelectronics.com website?

Well... The Elite's are basically identical to the non-Elites except for a few things. The first is that the Elite's are all black in color, including the stand. The second is that the Elite has a few more controls that an ISF tech can use to dial in the picture. That is basically it. The glass used on the Elite and non-Elite are identical. If you are not a radical videophile the picture quality difference between the Elite and non-Elite (after ISF calibration) will probably be impossible to distinguish. If you don't ISF calibrate the sets then it is quite possible the non-Elite could look better then the Elite and vice versa just dependant on how each set comes out of the factory.

This year Pioneer did come out with a 50" Elite set that is 1080p which there is no non-Elite version. Besides that all Elite models this year have a twin non-Elite version. I am not sure why it would be worth to spend the extra $$ on the Elite considering the very small difference.

Completely agree with Michael, the Elite is not worth the money over the regular Pioneer. The Pro FHD-1 (1080p model) is a better TV, but it cost 3x as much and the difference is marginal. The regular Elite model has no discernible PQ benefit unless you have them ISF calibrated and even then it is negligible.
