CLS55 vs CLS63

Guys, im a newb to the MB cars, and the only one i have ever followed has been the E55. The CLS gives me chills when i see it, but im curious as to what the performance difference is between the 55 and 63. Owners feel free to chime in, i attempted to search, but only found pictures of CLS's owned by people here that made me mess my pants.

As far as I can tell, from what owners have said here and on MBWorld, the 63 is faster than the 55 but doesn't necassarily feel so. The 55 has more torque and you get a better jump off the line but the 63 is more linear in its acceleration. The 55 is the one to get if you want to mod it, the 63 doesn't have many modifications available at this point.

Thats all I can figure out from reading on the internet. I've got the 63 and I love it. Just stock, for now...

There is such a miniscule difference between the 2 performance wise between the both (nods going to the 63) , but both are damn sexy and awesome. Being the person I am, 55 would be for me!

Im thinking that the 55 would be more my type of car as well. Isnt it the same drivetrain setup that was in the 06 E55?

The E55 has the "old" 5speed and the E63 has the new 7speed auto. If you want torque at any RPM go with the 55 but it has cooling issues that make its performance inconsistent, the new 63 is not without its own issues though, it has not lived up to its potential and most are not making the advertised 507HP nor are they running the numbers they should at the track. Time will tell with the 63 motor as it loosens up and more people report back, i personally would not buy one right now.

I would get the E63, Love the 7gtronic gear box and hopefully a Super Charger might be available for E63 by the Summer.

I am sure Kleemann,Brabus,Renntech and Carlsson are coming up with top notch products, Headers, Tunning and exhaust's.

There was a thread I read a while back I think its Renntech's E63 with a Ecu, Tune and Headers produced 550-ish hp to the engine.

I think tuners did not start to release aftermarket parts for the 63 engines yet...let give them some time

The 63 engine is definitely the new flag ship for MB but its not mod friendly. If modding is your thing then I would suggest to get the CLS 55.

The N/A 63 engine is just an intermediate engine....from what I hear. The next version in a few years will have either twin turbo's or a supercharger pushing the power well into the mid 600's. I have driven both cars as well, and I would agreee with most, the 55 is a beast, the 63 is much more tame and refined.

having driven both (e55, moms & cls 63, cousins),

the 63 is much easier to drive on the limit b/c the engine delivery is much more linear. the 55 is a beast, there is tq everywhere. speedwise the e55 was faster than the cls (we raced on the freeway up to 125+). if it was e and e or cls, cls then the 63 is faster after 110 or so. down low they are both almost dead even, definitely drivers race. i will post mb vids that i have.... check em out
