wanted: big open tarmac :)
So I've done a few open track events (2x Buttonwillow in my Mustang; 1x Thunderhill in my Mustang; 1x Thunderhill in my Dad's 996 C4S) but now that I've got the M3, I'd REALLY like to practice some DSC-off maneuvers in a big empty parking lot, just to get used to its brilliant 50/50 weight balance. I don't want to do autocross at Qualcomm ... but perhaps I could just go there and "register" and tell them all I want to do is practice slides and drifts in the parking lot?
There has GOT to be SOMEWHERE i can go to practice controlled slides and such, right?
P.S. I practiced drifts with my X5 in Tahoe in snow-covered parking lots, why can't i do the same here?

Yup, Shaun and I have been trying to find one in Norcal that we can use without possibility of getting in trouble. I've done it at Foothill College in Los Altos before, but last time I went (at midnight!) there was a cop hiding in the shadows at the end of the lot

yeah ... i honestly don't see why if you're using
(a) an empty parking lot
(b) with no residences or businesses or other persons nearby to disturb
(c) and if there is a minimal risk of injury to vehicles, persons, or property by such acts
then i don't see the state's interest in a law proscribing such acts in a parking lot. to use Learned Hand's balancing test, it seems as though the cost of monitoring people occasionally using a deserted parking lot for such purposes outweighs the liklihood of harm occuring times the probability that such harm would be serious.
no?
