Thinking of 997T for daily driver BUT concerned re: attention from Officer Law
Serious Question -- I put on 16k a year commuting to NYC from the outer 'burbs and want a real time gauge on how much unwanted attention I will get from NY State Trooper and NYC Highway Patrol versus an Aston Martin Vantage or M6 or..... - Thinking Slate or Black, so not red or yellow, but what are your experiences??
FYI, I have had a 996TT, and currently own both an F430 Spider and F430 Coupe (I get "it" for those cars but don't drive them each day of the week for 16k miles a year) but want real world experience and thoughts.
TIA

Thanks. I have to think though that the "hassle factor" increases - that is, when u r a few miles over the limit or driving quickly and the cops are not using radar but following and tracking, they may pick a 997TT over others (I always felt more hassled in the 996 TT than in my 4 door sedan).
Just in my head maybe, but love the feedback.
Thanks

i have a red 997tt-i have had a bunch of porsches-i think that it is the crazy driving, the weaving, the severe speeding which causes the traffic stops and ensueing tickets. like every other normal person, i think that the cops admire these cars-i don't think that they are looking to go after people who drive a porsche, in a sane manner. i have used a porsche as a daily driver for 15 years-ifi were you, i wouldn't hesitate to do the same.
NYC highway patrol got me about 3 years ago going 70 in a 50 zone on the G.C.P. I was in my M3, and there were plenty of other cars around. Everyone was going around 60-70 and I let my guard down since in my mind I was just cruising lazily. He paced me and then pulled me over. I am certain the car I was driving attracted his attention rather than any generic Toyota or Honda. Anyway, happy ending...I got a lawyer and won in court. The cop was stunned to say the least, since very very few people win in NYC traffic court.
Trending Topics
I think it depends a lot on where you are driving and how rare the car is. In SF, and I assume in any NYC commutable area, 911s are not unusual and will not draw double-takes from cops or others. Obviously a Turbo will be somewhat rare, but avergae person won't think twice about it.
I got more looks with my Yellow Cayman than with Cobalt TT.
Certainly not stealthy like an M5 or AMG, but I would not worry about it.
Answer might be different for people living in areas with lower concentrations of high-end cars.

I appreciate all of these insights. To be fair, I drive rather fast, but usually with the flow of traffic - try not to lead, but do go around 75-80 most of the time, but do NOT weave or do stupid stuff.
I just have to wonder if that Acura or Toyota or .... is not as tasty a target as a 997 if we are all going around the same speed.

never had a problem
I've owned red, black and silver turbos over the last decade and put about 12-15K miles a year on them - never had a problem with undo attention. The 997tt is a great everyday driver - PASM takes away the 996tt's harsh ride over lousy tristate roads and the slightly floaty feeling that the stock 996tt's had in the twisties. The 505 lb-ft of torque makes manuevering through traffic a breeze - the torque and brakes are incredible safety features.

What kind of mpg does one of those get at that speed?

With my previous vette, always would get pulled over. Vettes and Porsches are ticket magnets. Just turn on V1 and keep sharply focused. Interestingly enough, when you see a vette on the road, it is right there at the speed limit. With that fear, the thrill of driving, for me at least, is down the tubes.
If I get copper-beat-2badly with this porsche, so far so good, I'll be back to upcoming stealth v-8 M3 which could be turbo powered in '09. Hell, this tt looks so sporter, the wife won't ride in it, but that's OK too, with her there, the fun part of porsche-driving is lost, big time.
