Found large oil spot under car!!!

Hey guys,

I took the car out for a small drive, and on my return this is what I found:

2007 V8V 6k miles... bough it about a month ago.

Should I be concerned?

This is going to sound like a silly question, but are you sure it's oil? Hard to tell in the pic...looks like water with some oil in it. If it's definitely oil, then it's worth a trip to the dealer to see what's going on. I don't know of any issues, but it needs to be checked out. Seems kind of like rough weather in Montana to be driving this car...what's the temp there?

Tahoe,

Yesterday was in the 15s. Took the car out, went down the road for about a mile and came back. It was sitting for 2 weeks and I just read about the flat spot issue. It is oil, but now I wonder if it came out from the Aston or it was there allready as I put my kid's four wheeler together on that spot... In any event, I pulled in with the nose and I will see if there will be any future leaks. Thanks again for answering.

Call your dealer and set up a service appointment. There is a service bulletin about this and it may apply to you. I just had it done on my 2007 and it was covered by the warranty.

It's a bad seal and a major repair in that they need to take off some parts to get to the bad seal and repair it. It's a 5-10 hour job.

Hmmm, that is no joke. Closest dealer is 450 miles away, will they pick the car up? Maybe I can have the Power Pack installed at the same time... By the way, is there a website that lists the service recalls and bulletins?

PS: Correct that. According to Mapquest, Bellevue Park Place Motors is 690 miles from me...

When I owned my DB9, proximity to an authorized service center was one of my top concerns before buying an aston. You never want to own one of these cars and worry about how to get it to a service appointment..

I understand your point Riozz, however due to my location it doesn't matter what car I own...

Looked under the car after it sat for a day. Nothing yet, not a drop. Will see after I run the motor for a few minutes.

Bad news, I do in fact have an oil leak. Not too bad, a few drops but still. I am very dissapointed as I would not expect this from an Aston Martin. Used to drive a Hyundai as a daily driver and it never leaked, not even a drop. In any event, the car will be picked up and taken to Washington for repairs sometime after new years...

It's British. Mechanical problems and leaks come with the territory. Best of luck getting the leak fixed!

Not to worry. It's not convenient, but they will take care of it.

Aston Martin backs up their cars with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Not even my Porsche had that. They stand behind their cars.

We have to put up with a little more sometimes due to exclusivity and dealer location.

I am shocked at the way Aston dealt with my problem. As a German car driver, I have never came across such professional Customer Service. An enclosed truck will come up as soon as the weather permits, now that's something

Alzilla: I am not sure that mechanical breakdowns should be attributed to the Britts alone... German, Italian and Sweedish cars have their bad days as well. After all I drove the Aston 1400 miles almost non stop, and boy what a drive!!!!

Don't worry, quite a few Astons had problems with a faulty oil plug, once it's changed, all should be good. Mine had the same issue.

Good luck!

I had the same "oil leak" issue on my '07 - not all cars have it - my dealer easily fixed it and mine has had no isues ever since.
My wife had service/recalls on her '07 Cayman S too ... got a friend who just put a second engine in his 2000 996 (about 50k miles). Had about 300k on my 83 SC before a rebuild. Things are just different at Porsche - good cars just different engineering.
Still loving the Power Pack - if you are thinking about it let the dealer know in advance so the kit can be ordered (FYI).
I also never had the service at a P-car dealer like I have had at AM dealer - and the ratio of ownership is something like 15 to 1 !
